Forum Wars is an online, team-based overclocking/benchmarking competition hosted by The Raptor Pit. Basically, each team is divided up into classes, based on hardware limitations. Classes compete against each other, and basically the team with the most winning classes wins the wars. There’s quite a bit of strategy involved in class placement, and we’ve got some guys on our team that are great at that. OC Forums is on quite an impressive winning streak, which we’d like to keep going.
Forum Wars rules can be found at the official rules page.
Some changes since the last Forum Wars:
Posting scores in the last few days will be allowed only at TRP.
Benchs are 3d03, 3d05, Super Pi 1m (with an OC bonus), GeekBench & wPrime 32.
Unlimited Xtreme & Limited Xtreme Classes are no more.
All Cooling options are allowed for all classes.
Windows 7 OS allowed.
TWKR & Guftown will not be allowed.
75% of all OC scores will need to verified before the Database closes and (ONLY) 25% can be entered during the last 3 days at TRP.
All players need to register to play .
CPU’s are now catagorized by their thread potental… meaning.. 8-threaded means the CPU is capable of running 8-threads.
And Forum Wars classes are as follows:
The A Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 8 thread capable) CPU and 4 VGA cores maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The B Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 8 thread capable) CPU and 2 VGA cores maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The C Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 8 thread capable) CPU and 1 VGA core maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The D Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 4 thread capable) CPU and 4 VGA cores maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The E Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 4 thread capable) CPU and 2 VGA cores maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The F Class (3 player teams)
Quad Core (Max 4 thread capable) CPU and 1 VGA core maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
The G Class (3 player teams)
Dual Core (Max 2 thread capable) CPU and 2 VGA core maximum
Unlimited downgrades per team
No unreleased architecture ES chips that are not available retail
No cooling restrictions (Air, Water, Phase, LN, DICE, Cascades)
Forum Wars isn’t about getting the best parts, most extreme cooling, and destroying your hardware all in the name of cranking out a few good benchmark scores. It’s actually more about tweaking your setup to squeeze out every ounce of performance you can. There’s a class for everyone, regardless of your budget and skill level. If you’d like to participate in Winter Warz 2010, see the Official Forum Wars 2010 Thread. You can post there, post here, or contact me if you have any questions.

Work is pretty much killing me right now (legislative session), so my time is pretty much claimed right now. I haven't made any upgrades since last FW (see sig), so I can't provide much, but if you need me let me know.
01-26-10 03:12 AM
overclock your rig as far as you can without frying it (and sometimes frying stuff), and run benchmarks.
01-26-10 03:52 AM
From the 1st to the 14th of Feb you need to run, screenshot and post 3d03, 3d05, Super Pi 1m, GeekBench & wPrime 32 with your whole rig at stock speed (yes stock speed)
Then,
From the 17th of Feb to the 2nd of March you run the same benchmarks as fast and as tweaked out as you can (only stable for the bench you are running) and when I give you the go ahead (not before) you post those scores.
There will be a closed part of the forum that no one else can see where we will help you get the most out of your setup, and to make sure your screenshots are right.
But I do ask of everyone that takes part, is they do their best and takes part till the end (no pulling out after it's started...ie 14th of Feb in this case) as that lets down the whole forum.

also on the stock scores, do they matter at all. do we need to make them pathethic (bigger difference with the oc). should we slow memory ops. never done this so just asking.
if anyone will pm or post what to do or even expect let me know
01-28-10 01:30 AM
01-28-10 01:54 AM
From there Ray will pm you the pass word to the Police forum, in there, there will be a link and pass word so you can add yourself as a cop to the data base. In the forum there will also be all the links/pass words you will need to update the stock and overclocked data base.
There will/should also be a how to, what to do type of thread.
Well that made it sound harder than it is, it's dead easy, just a bit of time when up dating a number of posts/scores at once.
If you don't hear from Ray in the next two days, let me know and I'll give it to you. But I'll leave it to Ray to start with.
Yes you will be needed
So thanks for taking part.
i7 and two 9800's all on air sounds just great to me.
Stock scores are run at stock speed, doesn't help you at all running them faster.
But it lests us know and locks you into that hardware, and if something does go wrong, that stock scores could be used (if they are in fact at stock speed) so they need to be done.
In the past many forums have members that say they will take part, then never do, but if they run stock scores and post them the right way, as a rule you see them till the end.

Hardware in sig. Probably won't be getting anything new...wife got me on a budget. I was thinking about picking up GodM@n's 4890 though. Will bench with water/air probably.
I can either go P55/i7 860 and R4890 or 790FX/PII 955 and R4890. Any direction?
Edit: I'm reliable too.

So far I've only been successful in getting the PII to 4100-4200 range. Haven't benched the i7 yet, just got it running a few days ago.
Edit: You mean you want me to go get an i5 750 for the 4 threaded teams?
01-28-10 06:53 PM
Your i7 would be a best bet, if you can pick up another 4890 you'll be on a team with me most likely (same setup too
I think he meant i5 because its a 1156 chip.
01-28-10 07:08 PM
01-28-10 10:33 PM
The 103,000 points for the 103% OC on the e1200 seems pretty tasty, but y'all know far more then me about this sort of thing.
I might be able to come up with a stock overclocking-unfriendly 4850, if two rigs are needed in the dual core world. Actually there's a chance i could crossfire the 4830 and 4850 if it was really needed, and someone sent me a bridge or two. I'd have to bribe my buddy who owns the card, but that's ok.
EDIT:
Am i supposed to get any sort of confirmation from their signup form? It just went to about:blank.

The only thing with running dual 4890's on my P55 board is its 8x/8x pipeline. Not sure if that would kill the scores much or what...
If I need to get another 4890 (like thats where you guys want me to bench) I will need to get a head start purchasing one.

After stock scores are posted, the pass word to the closed forum will be PM'd.
On a side note, in RL I have a hell of alot or work on at the start of next week, 16 hour days here I come
If you need help and can't get hold of me, PM any of the Blues on the team and they will be able to help, or at least know who can.

That is exactly the scenario that I was trying to present. I don't want to list Dice, have Deanzo and the team count on me for Dice, and then not get enough time to actually throw down some Dice runs. Conversely, if I list water, and I wind up with some time for Dice, I want to be able to run it. The way it's looking... I might not have time for either, but I wanted to be clear on this either way.
I'm hoping the cooling method will be listed, purely as a formality (and informational purposes), and not a restriction (as it has been for all the prior wars)

Also, your name and forum should be in the ORB links.
And you need to be loged into you account at Geekbench to make sure your name is in the link. It must be there.

Just re-checked the rules. The database closes at 8pm CST on the 2nd. At least 75% of all teams' scores must be submitted and entered into the database at that time. Don't push your luck is all I'm saying. There's no reason for it. Per the rules: "Take Note: These are hard deadlines, there will be no excuses for missing them (None)"
03-01-10 08:04 PM
SUBMITTED OR ENTERED INTO THE DB. Not both. Its not the competing forums concern that the hosting site hasnt entered the scores that were SUBMITTED on time into the DB...right? You guys should have a day of built in lag time to catch up from the rash of submissions. But hell, who really needs that when you have Inteller!!!! haha!
No need to reply, just something to maybe chew on. I do not want to cause any drama. I believe this would help avoid that possible situation in the future....that is if I understood that statement correctly as well.
