what is the Difference between those two ??

When I ran UT in Direct 3D on my system, after ~20 minutes of online play my PC crushes.. But when I play UT in Open GL everything seems to work fine. No crushing !!. I was wondering what is the Difference between those 2 .. Also what is the BEST setting for Direct 3D, and Open GL options for the Geforce 2 family video cards....

Also How much MB of system memory do you use fo textures in PCI mode ??? Direct 3d / Open GL

Those are mine
Direct 3D---> Use up to 63 MB of system memory for textures in PCI mode

Open GL ---> Use up to 5MB of system memory for textures in PCI mode.....

Direct 3D crushes
Open GL does NOT.....
HMMMMMMMMMMMM ..................

I use both open GL an D3d ,usually in the geforce family ,UT is brighter in D3d then in open gl , but my framerates are kickass in open gl ,almost twice as many fps then direct 3d , I messed up a while back and installed
Direct X 8 and ut crashed always in direct 3d and not in open gl ,just wandering ,do you have dx8 ,

nope I am not kidding at all , It seemed to work alot better with 8.0 then 8.1 ,
I know it has something to do with dx8 and I think there is a patch on the UT website for it but I havnt tried it yet

OpenGL rocks! It's more tried and true than some M$ standard D3D. Besides, D3D is available only under Windows, which sucks. No surprise there.

I get about 80-100 fps in UT with OpenGL... Heh. I haven't even used D3D in it for a long time.

hey WILDONE after you reinstalled direct x 8.0 ( after Dx 8.1 ) do you still get the Error message when you play UT ??? That's what I get.... I may play UT for a while, and than all the sudden UT shuts down and an Error Message is displayed.... That is what happens to me even AFTER I reinstalled Direct x 8.0a ..... GRRRRRRRRRR I am SO pissed at myslef for INSTALLING Direct x 8.1 .. I don't know what I was thinking about... Before EVERYTHING worked SO good.. Never Had any problems. Now my UT crashes, all the time..........

Do you have similar problems after reinstalling Dx 8.0 ??

you didn't have to do that. At tweakfiles.com there's a program that uninstalls direct X 8. I made the same mistake and this programn helped me out.

Go with openGL, it has better graphics anyway. With my Pentium 200, I can play it at 50fps!

Same thing here... Locks up after 10 minutes, complaining about textures.

I'll try using DX7. Good idea folks.

personally i think ogl games run faster. but dx8 games are gonna look better. glide works best for me cause i have a voodoo but no games use that anymore so owell.

huh i think ogl looks better and performs better when i enable volumetric lighting in ut with ogl it runs flawlessly on my geforce2mx but under dx8 if i use it it lags the heck outa my vid card

For me Direct 3D gives a little more FPS, but OpenGL looks better.

PS: www.glsetup.com is a program I use. It is something like support for your OpenGL drivers, and it gives you better OpenGL performance.
