View Full Version : Performance increase from going from 1710-1800mhz?

Hey all, with my current rig (check sig) I get blazing performance, but I also love to overclock, now with my current set up my athlonxp 1600+ doesn't seem to want to go over 1750, I tried to give it 1.85v to get it stable but prime doesnt even last 30 seconds, now I think I might use the overvolt jumper on my mobo to give the cpu 2.1v but I'm wary because I've heard that that high of a voltage on an AthlonXP will kill it pretty damn quick, so I'm really wondering 2 things.
1)Will another 100 or 200mhz really give me a decent gaming performance increase? like more than 20fps?
2)Will running 2.1v for increased lengths of time damage my cpu if the temps are kept below 50c?

1) You could drop the CPU 200 MHz and probably not notice any difference in game performance.

2) Probably yes. Try and keep it under 2V unless you got money to back up your OCing ego, cuz upping to crazy high voltage won't get you THAT much farther.

1 - No it won't give you 20+ more FPS. The Ti200 doesn't really benefit from a huge gain in the high 1gig. If it was like a Ti4x00, then use. X, being the series.

2 - Just keep in mind your diode is in the on-die so it would be probably ok, just that go one step at a time. I'd probably go to 2v max. Going over 2v is just pushing your luck. Your cooling does matter but, that's like saying I will put 100v through it but I'll keep it under -50 degrees celius. It will still blow. But 2v will be fine, again just move up slowly.

Well I think I'll just keep it where it's at for now to keep things safe, seeing as I can't afford to buy new parts.

I would't recommend going further than 2.0 v w/o watercooling or a hsf w/pelt.

Just my $0.02 :D
