i would look for an Alpha 8045, or a swiftech MCX 462.
i'd try and stay away from thermaltake.

(You should consider the AX-478 its better than the Volcano 7+ )
dude...i just returned my volcano 7+ to frys today and I feel happy about it. it sucks, dont waste your time.
when these guys say the thermalright/alpha is better...listen to them. i dont have any experience with either but i'm looking into them both.
volcano 7+ = noisy and worthless. Perhaps its better for athlons.....
But if you wanted to know, its 40 bucks at frys..that'll save you shipping at least
best of luck

I was originally going to get the ax - 7 hs but i was told the weight of it might be a little much.... anyone heard about that at all?
i move my comp around a bit, lan partys andsuch. i just dont want to run the risk of the clip breaking and that heavy hs crashing though my boards.
Info pls. i dont want to waste my cash.

For the performance you get out of it, it is worth it. The weight issue shouldn't be a problem unless one of your lugs are about to break off. Just recently, I knocked over my 24" hydraulic case. Loud crash and all, but the AX-7 held tight. Although on 2 sides, the area where I screw the screws down for the fan no longer screws tightly, nothing ripped off.

Are you using it with a P4 or an XP chip. In you sig its an XP if thats the case you need the AX7 if you have a P4 socket 478 you need the AX478. Either way check out www.kdcomputers.com, they have the AX478 for 26 and the AX7 for 24

oh, and btw, I would suggest getting a high flow Vantec Tornado or a Delta and getting you a good 12.5watt rheostat to moderate the noise.
I would go with the ax-7 or ax-478 just as everyone else has been saying. It is a great heatsink. My friend has a 1600+ o/c to 1876 and has great temps. For air cooling the ax-7 is the best.
rlemieux,
The link is actually http://www.kdcomputers.com/ You squeezed a comma in it. Anyhow, where does one pick up the reostat? Also which is prefered, delta or tornado? is the delta also 38mm thick?
Anyone else know of good places to buy all this stuff together to save on shipping?

the delta is a 38mm wide fan also with the same statonary vane concept as the Tornado. They are very similar but the Tornado is a little more powerful.
I like KDcomputers, but you might try www.sidewindercomputers.com also

Volcano 7+ sucks! I took mine off for the third and last time.
Every time I took it off, the artic silver didn't show an even
contact patch! Showed large areas where it didn't contact the heat sink.
I replaced it with a Zalman 6500bcu (I know...not recomended
for overclocking) but it droped temps in Prime95 (20c room)
by 6c! Comes with a 50 cfm fan and I have a 119cfm Tornado
on the way.
PS....it's quiet also.

Alot of us socket 478 users had problems with the Volcano 7+ we could not get it to seat because of the little tabs holding the retaining clip down were hitting the heatsink. I personally contacted Thermaltake about this and they just pushed it aside saying nothing was wrong.
That is why we are all suggesting the Thermalright AX478 its great.

In Defence of the TtV7+.....if you have a AMD chip than you will be fine and probably be happy w/ the cooling as well. P4 peeps have too many probs w/ this fan and that just continues to give Tt a bad rep. Someday they may get it right, they have lots of good ideas but they need more product testing and definately "BETTER TECH SUPPORT"!!!!!! I will probably not go w/ Tt when I purchase my next fan.....but in the meantime, my Volcano 7+ keps my T-Bird nice and cool:D :D :D
