would it be worth setting up an old p2 400?
the only problem i have with setting it up is that i dont have a hub so i'll have to dialup via modem..is there any way i can only allow it to dial out to send/retrieve packets during a certain time frame? i can run linux/98/bsd
thanks

It's worth setting up, it'll get the job done just not real fast. I've got a P166MMX that is going to start up here soon again.:)

If you run Win98, it will pop up the dialup connection box when it needs to dial out. If you tick the 'connect automatically' box then it will dial out automatically when it needs a new WU. Set it to disconnect after 5 or 6 mins of inactivity and it should work fine.
I would say go with windows98 for this one. Although I prefer Linux as an OS, it is roughly 15% slower at folding.

It's underclocked, silly! Instead of running the FSB at 400MHz, he's got it set to 66MHz, like an old Celeron. :p
j/k ;)

I had a p2 400 mhz running for a while. At 400 mhz it did a protein a frame in 45 mins. At 480 mhz overclocked it did it at 35 to 36 mins. Real big difference. I used the console (text) client on the machine using win98SE. I calculated that running 24/7 it was good for 8 to 11 pts per week. Hope this helps
