View Full Version : AGOIA must be newer than AROIA

why? because i see noone with an overclock over 1.8ghz on a AROIA and with AGOIA i see overclocks up close to 2ghz....
is it a fact that AROIA are newer? or is it just what we "think"?

it be fact fool! :p
Lets see some people with AROIA with a later week then my 1600's 0213. That chip should overclock like a bandit...

in sig. 12x147. Darn FSB limited motherboard! Boots as high as 1796. And this is on air with not much volatge! 40C load.
Starfox: Any luck getting your Agoia higher? I just got one as you can see. Did you try less than 1.85v and maybe a bigger mult and less FSB, just to find the limit of the chip? What temp is that thing running at anyway?

Try to think of it as an evolution of stepping codes:
AGKGA
AGOGA
AGOIA
AROIA

All I know is, I'm ordering another 1600+ from Newegg this week in hopes of a better overclock.
I don't think AROIA's are bad, but it does seem like the highest OC's are from AGOIA's.
I've got my AROIA week 10 booting over 1950MHz now and running 3D @ 1900MHz...
The AGOIA week 13 that I got would only boot at 1910 and couldn't run 3D much over 1850 :(
I also had a AROIA week 11 that wouldn't run 3D over 1750MHz....so I don't think the week is such a big factor.....I truely believe its pretty much luck as far as how high ur CPU will run stable.
This is all done on a Thermalright AX-7 & YS-Tech 48.5cfm fan.
Either way, 1750MHz from a 1400MHz chip is nothing to laugh at...its still a nice OC :)

oook? hmmm n8 what you got for cooling? becuase i seem to be able to run windows at 1980 usually on my agoia.. and i can see 2040 when i boot...
its just what i have noticed.... it seems weird
I have an AROIA-Y running at 1906 right now. It can fold at 1950, but the ram craps out past there. I haven't tried to see how high it will post...didn't really see a point.
Oh yeah, MG, N8, what are your temps at 1900 on the 8k3a? Mine are low-mid 60's.
I am using a Thermalright AX-7 & YS-Tech 48.5cfm fan. This is fairly quiet air-cooling. I am not saying AROIA is better....I'm saying it depends on each CPU. :)
You have a very good CPU there's maskedgeek :D

ill go max mine out now!:) i just got my wc up and good... its still kinda bleeding out, but the temps dont seem too bad...

Damn you guys who are hitting 1900+ MHz are lucky! Or maybe I just got UNlucky... I've tested this chip thoroughly and it doesn't want to go past 1800, even with 2.2 Volts.... :(
Oh well, maybe next time I'll get a better chip.
@maskedgeek
Tell my about your voltage mod how did you do it? I've got a EP-8K3A and am getting 4.83 on my system full load, and that's kinda freeking me out. :(
Thanks

AGOIA Locked 1828 rock solid! 40c load. 1.85v-core Posts well over 1900mhz. Volt mod on the way from our o/c forum member Larry Quinn. Hopefully I can hit big numbers. I need to unlock and up the multiplier to 11. My HD does not like too much over 180, maybe its time for a reformat.
see, looka mah aroia on air :D

I ain't even seen what the max she'll boot at is yet :)
Its luck of the draw.....I've gotten both AROIA's and AGOIA's since this chip that won't clock like it :D
That's not a stable speed though, n8 :)

maby thats why my oc isnt stable i took the 5v mod out cuz one of the wires came off and it caused sparks...
check the sticky in cases and powersupplies...

what about the AGNGA steppings? are they any good? i've seen someone in the classifieds selling one that could do 1805 mhz on air...

agnga goes between agkga and agoga, up there in the thingy

I just got a agkga y 1800+ today and already had a agoga Y 1800+. they seem to be pretty evenly matched if anything the agkga y will go a little higher. go figure

ur right, that's not a stable speed on air :)
but the one in my sig is ;)
I know for a fact that there are both AGOIA's and AROIA's that won't OC this well....so we're going in circles :D
AROIA was def. newer than the AGOIA stepping....but there are some new AGOIA's as well. Either way, making assumptions about the stepping/code/week seems to not make much sense as you'll never really know till u plug it in and try ;)

My XP1900 AGNGA Y sucks hard!! It's watercooled and just doesn't want to do much over 1765 but I haven't went over 1.85vcore and haven't unlocked it yet. Maybe it will be ok once I unlock it and give it more juice. My XP1900(rip) AGKGA Y did 1930 with water and 2.1vcore to bad it died (girlfriend was messing around with it and turned the pot up to see what it did!) My XP1600 AROIA Y is at 1607 with a cheap stock hsf from my old tbird 950 and 1.75vcore; it runs hot though around 53c load. The real killer is that the XP1600 folds, on any protein, better than the XP1900 at any speed so far.
It all comes down to the luck of the draw!:)

hey mustangman next you v mod your board add a resistor somewhere in the circuit that way if the pot does get turned up it won't go past a certian voltage. max voltage would depend on the ohms or the resistor.

Thanks, I checked it. Will look into it tonight. =)

Sweet overclock =)

whats all this it will post at crap. I have a tbird that will post at 1860 but will it boot into window anywhere close to that speed heck no
ur tbird will post at 1860 but only runs stable at 1620??
I can bench at 1949(sandra that is)....i just can't run 3DMark....so I don't consider it totally stable. It all depends on what ya consider stable and I can't believe u lose 240MHz to gain stability if u can post at 1860 :( that sux.
Edit: ahh, post w/o even getting to windows? that is no good...and i still find it hard to believe that ur CPU will post that high w/o making it into windows even close to that...that stinx :P
Edit2: When I was saying boot up above, I meant boot into windows..and its usually not to hard to run some Sandra benches once ur in.....w/ Win2k that is....at least in my experimenting. I have never thought to test what the max speed i can post the PC at and not make it into windows.....don't even know why ya'd care to know that, lol :)

I second that! I never have understood why people rant about what speed their cpu will POST at... if it can't Prime stable, what good does it do you? So, who gives a <insert expletive here> !!
[Nothing personal to any of you who have bragged about POST results]

I disagree w/ the Prime statement.....there is a ton of things you CAN do and not be able to run prime for 12hours :) At least in my experience ;)

my tbird will do higher but not in this board. in bios no vcore, multiplier, or fsb considering all this not a bad overclock if I say so myself. POST: stand for power on self test. my post wasn't directed at you but nfsga and {PMS}fishy

I said, "boots", as in boots into Windows at 1796.... Haven't really played with it nor upped the voltage above the 1.825 setting. I think it will go higher, but my board's FSB will not.
Edit: And the reason I say that is because I think I was the 1st person to mention a speed other than one that is 100% stable.

yea so whats your point? ROFL. your freaking killing me over here. read the thread a little better a few people were talking about P.O.S.T. @ certain speed.
OK, EVERYONE Arkaine23 SAID BOOT NOT POST

Well you're right on that. Since I'm a Folder I think only in terms of Prime stability :D
In my experience though, if I try running my machine at a certain speed that hasn't passed Prime testing, I'm taking my chances with things like games, etc... so I prefer to have it at a 'Prime certified' speed regardless of what I'm using the thing for.

Yeah I never considered doing that prior to this happening! I have overclocked for a while now and vmodded a decent number of boards but never thought an adult would ignore the warning on the box that says do not touch voltage controllers (at least not anyone that knows me!) I guess I should know better after all these years on this big blue ball.

I did my v mod the same way I get any where between default and 2.15 I don't plan on going any higher than that
