i think going from 1004 to 1006 changes the "address" of the promise controler on other Asus boards causing this problem. but then this board doesnt have promise controlers..

I f you are using the bios for the right board, you won't have to worry about a promise driver on this board as there is no version that has one. It's not like the KT7A and the KT7A-Raid where the only diff was that one had raid and the other didn't.

yeah. no raid. it goes to the first graphical prgress bar and freezes halfway. usually my screen flickers doring that screen. this stops right becore the flicker if anyone else has that happen. i am going to try again tonight. Oh and where does ACPI fall into all this. the first boot blue screened right away and said to either enable or disable. i don't remember. i went to bios and did what it said and then it went farther and locked up. flashed back and everything is great. Is there any real reason to worry about flashing? any good changes?

my guess is the new bios has enabled some advanced ram setting, thats causing curruption or something.....
maybe its just a bad bios? or maybe your download got currupted?
Try disabling all caching options within the BIOS, including CPU L2 cache. Seems I read about a similar problem over at 2CPU.
If that doesn't work, try going to the 1005 BIOS and on from that.

both of my A7M266-D r still using the 1004 BIOS. the as for a dually, stability is my first concern unlike my other uni-pro that i tweak all the time. so, back to the old sig......."if it ain't break, leave it alone....."
btw, what's the diff. from 1004 to 1005~1006 bios? any better?
I still use the 1004 on both of mine too. I saw nothing in the updates that warranted a change as far as I was concerned.

Well i was out last night and finally decided to buy myself the 80 GB HD i have needed for a while. I was going to have to reinstall windows so i flashed the bios first then installed. no errors or hang ups.
