Ok, I have this older Compaq pc that I just installed WIndows 3.11 in and when I go to boot it up, it says I need a compatible DOS disk to make it start! Does anyone know where I can get a DOS boot disk that is compatible with Win3.11???

I found another page that talks about a boot disk for Win3.11 with Dos6.22. Does this mean that I should have Dos6.22 install on the pc also??? Where would I get that from?

Is there a reason you don't use another os? I can run '98 on a 2gig with less ram and speed.
Also, how did you format and partition for 3.1?

It's just a preference! Anyway, I don't know why I never thought of this before, but we used pcs with Win3.11 in a Computer Science class last year for a bit before we got our new pcs and I remember that they just booted up, so they must have had DOS on them already since 3.11 doesn't come with DOS! So I am going to have to find DOs and install that on there for it to work. Haha, I'm such a dummy!:) I figured I could just use a boot disk and it would boot up, but I was wrong.
Anyway, thanks for trying to help me out!

In that last link I gave, there is another link called "DOS Only". Maybe that something you can use. Good luck.

Ok, I looked around and found instructions on how to install Win3.11 and it says I have to install Dos6.22 first, then install Windows. I don't know where I can get DOS! Is it still around anywhere, and does it cost money?

May I ask just how in the hell you plan on installing Windows 3.1 on the FAT32 file system? :-p
Dos 6.22 is no longer sold, anywhere (new). Just search around for it, you'll find a download sooner or later.
DOS 6.22 nor Windows 3.11 will support FAT32. You'll need to cut that disk up into 2GB FAT16 chunks to use it.
