Hello guys,

Current rig:
Tbird 800
Asus A7V
1 gig of pc 133 ram
geforce2 ultra

Proposed rig:
Athlon XP 2000+ OEM $228
ECS K7VTA3 VIA KT333 $113
512MB PC-2700 DDR333 $179
geforce2 ultra $0
Total: $520 CAD

Or should I wait till newer procs come out like hammer etc? I mean currently my rig runs everything I ever do, every single game. Yeah once Doom3 and stuff comes out I will need a new video card and all, but that is still almost a year away.

I'm sorta waiting. I would like to make my upgrade the highest I can, but they say you should not go with the first run of something. (Hammer) So....I guess it will depend on when I actually break down and buy! Sorry, not really any help. :( :D

naw lol, its a valid point, i am thinking that too, why upgrade now, I mean playing quake with 100 fps is not much difference than playing it with 200 fps lol ;)

And yeah, once the really new stuff comes out, you will want that, so why upgrade now? lol

if you wanna upgrade now then get a intel 1.6a. If you are set on AMD then dont upgrade now and wait till the hammer comes out. i am sure you will see more of a performance increase if you change your videocard to a geforce 3/4 anyways.

why not overclock your chip. i am sure you can get 1ghz out of it.

so essentially what i am saying is wait for hammer for amd or buy intel now.

am thinking that too, should wait till hammer comes out. Why in gods name would I go for a 1.6a intel ? lol Amd xp 2000 is much better, and much cheaper.

Also I dont need to buy a new videocard now, As long as I play every game that I play on max quality with acceptable framerates, why spend the $$$ :)

My chip was overclocked, but I got fed up with the overheating, reboots etc, So i calmly went stock, and put the fsb to 100mghz, instead of 133, stable as hell, yeah I loose out like 10 fps in quake, but who cares, my monitor still doesnt refresh that fast lol (@ 85hz now lol)
