Norton Antivirus 2002 is probly your best bet. You can disable Auto-Protect if you have too. It scans outgoing email so you dont have to be worried about a virus spreading to your contacts. Worth your money if your looking for a good AV.
i use AVG (http://www.grisoft.com/) because is free and reliable and also because i can completely disable it when i want to run games or need more resources. it also provides frequent database and engine updates and work finding and cleaning virus as well as norton etc.

norton 2002 works great for me....you can get it at newegg for like $15...you just have to order a subscription...but its worth it

I'm usin' Norton 2001 which I got for $15 and has a two year subscription built in. When my system crashed and I did a clean OS install, it reset the clock and I have still another year left.
i heard the time norton allows the virus database update expires? is that correct?

Nothing expires on your machine but you can't get any more DAT updates. I update daily using an automatic update engine. When it runs out you either buy another CD or pay online for another year of update privileges.

Yes, it expires 1 year after installation.

All definitions can be updated at www.zdnet.com in there download section. I've never had any problem updating the software either after their 1 year limit.
AVG is also good for a free a/v.

If you install in another machine or after an fdisk and OS reinstall, it thinks it has one year from the clock/date on your machine. I just got an extra 10 months. I'm sure I'll end up redoing the OS again before the years up :D
Norton has this kind of problem. The update date is 1 year from the computer clock at the time you installed it. That's why if you reinstall it any time, it will give u another year from the time you installed(the time of your computer clock).
Once(sometimes last year) one of my computer's time messed up, to the year 2010 something like that, and I found out it after i installed the norton anti-virus 2001,
after I changed the time back to normal
guess what?
It shows i had 3000 days for updating.
Silly norton:)
They really should think about register by password something like that if they are a little smarter
