View Full Version : The deal with core/memory setting

When OCing a video card is there a rule of thumb with the settings?

1) Do you want the core/memory to be within a certain range of each other?

2) Do you want to push the core further or the memory further from thier orignal settings?

3) Do you set the core as high as you can, and then set the memory as high as you can?

Thanks for any help on this. I have read how to do it, ordered some serious cooling supplies, but I dont feel like I am 100% for sure on the small stuff.....and before toasting my card and THEN asking here I figured I would ask here first :)

just dont go all out on the first try. I would overclock the memory first, then set it back to stock and overclock the core to see how high each will go. just increase the clock a little bit at a time (5-10 mhz) until either you see artifacts in a game or 3dmark or either just wont run/ runs for a little while and crashes.

if youre just careful about it and dont try to automatically overclock to some extreme speed right away, your card will be fine. it will show artifacts and lock up long before it fries.

Also benchmark at your highest memory settings, again at your max core setting, then again with the highest combined (all 3 will perform differently). Then choose which setup runs faster for your card.

I can't get the F7 to load. I tried to regular F7 and the modded F7...both of them lock up at the windows xp boot screen :( Did you have to do anything special?

nothing, I personlly have never ever had any issues with this board, all bios have worked great memory at ddr333 at top performance, geforce4 overclocked. i guess Im the lucky one.
