I have DSL running PPPoE. My main PC is running Win2K Pro and all the others are Win ME with 1 Mac.
I used to use a PII 300 as a proxy server but recently installed the Linksys.
All the other PCs seem to run fine in terms of speed, but my W2k PC seems to run extra slow. I also run a Telnet client 24/7 and prior to using the router, I used to have connection running all the time. Now, the Telnet connection drops after 20 or 30 minutes.
I have the router at auto connect after 30 seconds (the default). Why is my connection so freaking slow???
BTW, Linksys Tech support is a joke.
Thanks

If you think its the router causing the slow speeds...have you tried hooking the dsl modem directly up to the win2k pc? If only that one computer is having issues its probably not the router. I had the same problem with a win2k machine on my network awhile back(the other 5 machines were hitting 1.4 and the 2k box wouldnt go past 200), turned out the HD crashed on the 2k machine a week later. Also...what kinds of connection speeds are you actually getting on the 2k machine?(toast.net or speedtest.com) Also try swapping out network cards from one of the other machines. Try a different network cable. Try a different port on the router.
Anyways, let me know what happens after you do all those things.

try here (http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks) it'll tell u how you can fix it. i had the same problem, worked great! windows 2000 tends to be a bit sluggish when it comes to any type of network activity.
Try updating the firmware for the router, it may have some fixes for PPPoE...

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
The connection speed is actually not that bad - 1.1 MBps according to www.speedtest.com. This seems to be around what dslreports says as well.
I already have the latest firware.
The problem seems to be not the actual connection speed, but when I click on a link, the screen just seems to stop in mid refresh.
I'll have to try a different port on the router as well as try a different cable.
I'll let you know the results.
Thanks again.

One more odd thing. Why is it that my WinME PCs can see each other in Network Neighborhood, but the Win2k PC is visible to teh WinME PCs and Vice Versa?
I can ping the IP address from WinME to Win2K and back. I have File sharing installed on the Win2k PC and it's on the same workgroup.

Probably not a problem with the router. Sounds more like an OS issue. Clear the cache, set cache size to something small like 20 megs, run defrag, run the tweaks off dslreports.com. Make sure your rwin settings are high enough. And if none of those things fix the problem...set a static DNS and static ip in the properties of the NIC. If you continue to have the problems install a PPPoE client on you 2k rig and see if the problems continue just to completely rule out the router as the issue.
