I recently overheard two computer techs discussing the differences between one cpu and another. One of them mentioned that the P4's that only have 256K cache built into them <quote: "are infact the Celeron Willamette processors" unquote.> Is this person correct, by stating that they are Celeron processors?

Nope. He's dead wrong. The P4 1.7gig Willamette processors have 256k L2 cache, and the 1.7gig Celeron processor based on the Willamette core has 128k L2 cache.
Matthew A. I believe your a bit confused but its understandable considering the history of the celeron. This may be a bit more than you asked for but I'm kinda bored this morning.
The most recent celeron procs. are built on the Wilamette core but only have 128K L2 cache and 100FSB.
The previous celeron line was built on the Tualatin core and had 256K L2 cache and 100 FSB from 1.0 to 1.4Ghz designated by an A.
The cele before the tualatin was the coppermine core starting out in 533/66 FSB models going up to an 1100/100 FSB model in socket 370 (FCPGA)
Before the coppermine came the Mendocino celeron and went up to 533/66 in socket 370 (PPGA) models with 128K L2 cache and went up to 400/66 in slot 1 (I think)
And the original cele was built on the Deschutes core Slot 1 at a clock speed of 266 with no L2 cache on the chip
If I got any facts confused or missed something feel free to correct me

Coppermine Celeys had 128k cache. Also, Mendocino core Celeys were available in both Socket 370 from 300-533, but in slot one from 300-400. The Desutches core Celeys had the 266 and the 300, the Mendocino had 300A-533.

If one begins at O.C.'s home page and follows one of the animated advertiser pics, one can then find themselves at a site that offers various computer stuff for sale. In their cpu section they offer a 1.7 ghz celeron with a 256K cache. Perhaps this is the cpu that confused one of the techs. When I heard him mention the 1.7 P4's were celeron processors, I totally forgot to remember the differences in each processors FSB speeds. WOops! Thank You for shedding a little bit of light where I needed it.
no prob...probably just a misprint on the site
