Mmkay.. here's the story..

I like my water cooling - nice and quiet and all.. (my kit plain sucks for temps/OC but thats a diff story) but recently I've moved into a house with no central air.. just 2 window AC's...

It takes forever for these things to cool the house, and even with central air back in MD I always had the warmest room. Surprise surprise I seem to have picked the warmest room in this house

Well .. my whole setup is bulky as well and I'd like to just have one nice looking case even if that means no W/C..

I'm interested in the following though.

Fans vs W/C vs Extreme cooling.

Would I see a difference in ambient temps ? In that I mean, would I notice my room seems cooler if I switched back to fans without a radiator dumping all that heat into the room?

Or would my temps drop if I did a moded fridge or Prometia unit ??

If there is a difference do you think it would be negligable... I'm supposed to get 100 bucks soon... (friends...they never pay; ugh!)

I've thought about maybe trying to find a window AC used or new or whatever I could get.. but my dad was going on about overloading the circut and all that...

Anyways.. anyone have any suggestions ? I just can't stand all this heat any longer.. and on the A/C bit.. if anyone knows of any kind of unit that would eat up significantly less power than traditional window units - etc and the price is fair - let me know

Heat is heat: you are going to have to deal with it one way or another- different cooling schemes just relocate where the heat is:

Air cooling- all the heat is in the case and moved out by the exhaust fans.

Water Cooling- (external radiator) components in the case still create heat, but the largest source- cpu- has the heat transferred by water to a radiator outside the case. Chipset and video chip can also easily be water cooled, but the heat is STILL coming out at the radiator.

Extreme Cooling: Pelts and refrigeration systems actually INCREASE the total heat put out by the system- its just that less of it is in the computer.

A room ac can compensate, at the cost of more electricity being used. Now an option I use to a small degree is putting my radiator in my window. During the winter I get great temps:D but in summer the sun can actually make it worse at times.

Hopefully I've given you a couple of things to think about, anyway!

Yea I understand that concept... and I could easily rig up something to put my radiator outside.. but then again "it's not my house and I don't pay the bills"

it's too bad the basement has all this damn water damage... it has to be rebuilt/waterproofed and all that before I would ever consider keeping a bedroom down there..

I saw this little personal air conditioner... prolly doesn't do much..

http://www.airconditionershack.com/personal_air_conditioner.htm

I've also seen "personal air conidtioners" that do "spot cooling" that can supposedly cool up top 7 feet infront of it by 12 deg F at far less power consumption than window units...

I dunno...bleh =\

heres the thing, its not your room being hot its the computer making your room hot, i had the same prob till i moved to the basement.. its kinda nice in the winter:D shut off your computer for a day and go on with regular life and see what happens.... i bet itll cool off quite a bit...

SACRILEGE!!!!

When you are on a distributed computing team you aren't allowed to shut down the pc for a day!!! Bad maskedgeek!

Yea I've had the PC off before.. I know it will prolly make a difference..

the whole thing is once I start using it again I'm back to square one :p

I've been thinking that once my dad leave I can go get a peice of wood, a really nice case, and some hose of some sorts..

get some nice fans for my new case - etc, and then build something that basically ducts my exhaust through the window.

I figure it's a relatively cheap way of doing it... the case being the most expensive part..

of course this brings to mind all sorts of new ideas as well.. I'm sure I'll think of something - but I am definately going to look at getting my PC close to the window and using some air hoses to duct the hot air from whatever method I decide ---> outside...

The only thing I'm worried about is backflow - say when the PC is off or something.. I figure just using one of those flappy thingies that opens one way and shuts when the air isn't blowing, will take care of that tho ..

also - can anyone give me a rough figure of how much heat a trypical 17" monitor might dump into a room ? I know this sucker is contributing, but unless I win the lottery I'm not even gonna be looking at flat screen LCD's and the like..

or just duct the in and out....
