hmmmm this is what i got not sure what car its from he just took it from them since its smallest he can find 8.5inches length7.5 inch wide 1 inch thin
will i be able to use this? kinda big... =\ or am i better off gettin a coolercore from dtek for 35.... can't beleive this piece can help ur water become cooling how is this possible?
If its cu or brass, it should be fine (large enough) unless you have a heavy load. (probably even if you have a heavy load) I however am always wary of used heater cores as the new ones are so darn cheap anyway, it doesn't seem worth the risk.

CU is copper
and if it was a used heatercore would u worry about any residues in side?
this is my 100th post
could be rust from the rad itself or most likely the water pump if it was used in a car

everyone just dead silent today aren't they... need some help how put barbwires and is this ok to use... and how do heatercore actually keep ur water cool.... etc etc... is my heatercore ok to use.... should i use jb weld.... yadda yadda yadda...
it looks like a heater core from a motorcycle, have all the long tubes and jb weld some 3/8 brass fittings on there or if you can solder do it like that.

Alright.....if your heatercore is aluminum and your waterblock(s) are aluminum your good to go. If your radiator is copper and your waterblocks are copper your good to go. If one is aluminum and the other is copper you are no go.
Al (aluminum) and Cu (copper) when connected by any means that allows ion travel (in this case water) will cause what's called a battery effect. You can do a search for battery effect and get tons of answers for that.
As for your rad being big enough, yes it looks fine. It may not be the biggest or best in the world but it will get the job done right. To attach your hosing JBweld some barbs on the ends with the right size...i.e 3/8 or 1/2 ID (in inches).
A heatercore works like this:
warm water comes into the one side, gets spread thoughout the core dissipating it's energy to the fins (the amount is based on some constants and a variable called "delta T" which is the temperature difference between the two objects). then a fan blows air over the fins where the fins dissiparte energy into the air(again based on constants and "delta T", if you have a lot of new air ocming in the delta T is almost always high which is good for conducting energy to the air, bad airflow makes delta T very low and therfor not a lot of energy gets dissiapted.). Then this wamer air goes where ever the laws of physics tell it to.
you have a waterblock and pump right? you gotta have a pump or you might as well drop kick your processor....that would probably be more fun then running a computer without a pump.

hmmm the picture might be kinda small... heres a better picture

from looks of it seems like its brass or something.... or aluminium
edit: no pump or waterblock yet.... figuring out what to buy... i can go near by fish store might cost a bundle tho.. or i should buy an via 1300 online with assemble bars sound good don't it?

via's are good, but i'd spend the extra cash and bvuy an eheim, IMO there more reliable. If it's brass it's ok, but i doubt it is. It looks like al. Your gonna need either al waterblock or you might just be better to go and get maybe a chevette heatercore or camaro 89....but the 89 is a big ass heatercore 8.5x7x2.

why dont u try it out first and post results as in water temps and ambient temps then we'll try to help u more if u need a new heatdore or not. but it looks like it should do the job alright.. u just need to weld a couple barbs on it and its ready to go.

ok thanks... i'll buy my pump and waterblock maybe end of the summer and keep you guys posted...
the fins on that core are much more dense than the heater core I have ...
It might do damn good !!
Do ya have a color pic of it ???
xvi3tsoljahx

hmmm that is a color pic... lol..... i scaned it since i have no digi =(

actually its .... an actual color picture... thats the color....
Hmm ... Looks aluminum to me ..
Hard to tell I guess before you polish it up a bit :D
xvi3tsoljahx

how do i polish that sucker up? yeah its aluminmum. my mistake.
xvi3tsoljahx
07-11-02, 11:23 AM
since my fins are sorta thick and hard will it still work u can see in the picture... above
Then you might consider an Aluminum block ...
xvi3tsoljahx
07-11-02, 06:43 PM
i see most ppl having aluminum heatercores, but use copper blocks like danger den and spiral
xvi3tsoljahx
07-11-02, 09:31 PM
hmm looking at those chevy chevettes heatercores it seems like they have more space between fins which mine doesn't....
xvi3tsoljahx
07-11-02, 09:42 PM
hmm maybe it looks different it might be a new heatercore for a new car.... =\ do they work good just as the old school kinds?
edit: compare to the old ones there thicker and the fins are widely spread new ones seem to be closer together any difference prefomance?
