I have a Maxtor 80G 7200RPM HD. Lately I have been getting strange DOS partition errors.

Win98 asks to run scan disk I have let it do a full check it found nothing wrong. This really got me steamed because an 80G surface scan takes about 5-6 hours to complete.

I then started up Disk Doctor (DD) from Norton. DD found a DOS partition error and asked me if I wanted to fix it. I said yes so it proceded to scan the whole disk for other DOS partitions. Which agian took forever.

As of right now I have 40G in Windows and 40G in Linux. May this be my problem? Thing is I have never had this problem before.

And I have had DD fix it twice now. a day later it pops back up.

Any help?

Go to Maxtor's website and get Powmax v.3.02. It is a diagnostic utility that can sometimes fix disc errors. Worst case scenario, it will tell you if you have a bad drive.
