.. The 'standard' for e-machines (micro ATX towers) is a 145W PSU.... generous companies do put 155w. Note that this is not that low for an intel box with 3 pci slots and only 1 hdd, (and of course no intention to overclock  hehe)

My dad is running a 1GHz Celeron, 2 hard drives, 2 CD-ROMs, floppy, and a SiS 6326 AGP card on a 145W ATX

http://usa.asus.com/desktop/termk7/specification.htm

is a Socket A micro ATX barebones with a 150W power supply.

There is also a SiS 650 micro P4 version that carries a whopping 165w PS.

I've built 6000 or so since the advent of Win95, and tried the micro ATX thing for a couple of years. Even with the Celeron 466's and MSI micro motherboards I used the typically 145 micro power supplied died consistantly, no matter what the maker. The size of the micro power supply just doesn't allow for adequate output and heat characteristics, IMO.

Asus usually delivers quality products but I still have to wonder about the wisdom of a micro ATX AXP or P4. Even fitting the best micro power supply I have access to, the Sparkle 180W (118W max on the 3.3_5V figure) http://www.sparklepower.com/pdf/FSP180-50NIV.pdf , I would have to be prepared to replace the case with a full size ATX case with 250W power supply to fix one that boiled over. Not a position I wish to be in.

I repaired a friend's mini hewlett packard desktop and i think it had a 90W power supply in it. A really really small power supply in a small flat desktop. P2 or P1, 1 cd, 1 floppy and 1 hd.

not a bad idea. Some older psus will work without being plugged into a mobo.
