Ever since the thread with a lot of us folder's pics, I've been wondering: what do you do for jobs? I just like to get to know you guys better.
I'll start: right now, I'm doing a little bit of construction, hopefully to be followed by a computer job here in town. :)

Your water is obviously not broken. ;) I mean well water mostly. Iron/sulphur/extreme hardness removal, sterilization, etc. If you have problems with so much sulphur that it's eating through your pipes and you can smell it from 3 blocks away, or iron ruining everything in your house, or water so hard that soap doesn't work at all, or bacteria infestation so that you can't drink it or serve it to guests because they'll get sick then you have broken water.

I work in the oilfield drilling industry as a Drilling Fluids Engineer, which requires me to work a 14 day on and 14 day off schedule. That's why I disappear from the forums for a couple of weeks at a time.:( I deal primarily with solids-laden, non-newtonian fluids of various densities mostly but occasoinally will run some brine water completion fluids, which are newtonian fluids. My job has helped tremendously in setting up my watercooled rig too.:D

(1) Think long-term. Don't get caught up in what's hot at the moment. DP runs in cycles - up and down.

(2) Find something you really enjoy doing, even if it's not in computers.

(3) In networking (from what I'm told), diversity is the key. If you can learn MS and Novell and Cisco, you ARE all that. :D

I work for a small telecom company. We make pre-paid phone cards and I setup and maintain the phone switch and install T-1 lines and stuff.

You ever use a pre-paid phone card? The voice prompt that tells you how much money you have left and how much time you can talk for? I program that as well.

I also have complete control of all the PCs in our office, hence the 12 Ghz of Folding power to date. Actually, I just added another 850 Mghz so it should be 12.4 Ghz. :)

Wow, I still get a chuckle everytime I go to the states (or Quebec) and see beer in EVERY store!

Up here, we are only allowed to sell it in "The Beer Store" (thats seriously the name of them) or "The L.C.B.O." (Liqour Control Board of Ontario or something....).

Anyways, I juse find it amazing how easy it is to get beer in your country! :D I guess that means more work for you! ;) ;)

It IS sweet. Getting a retirement check right after retiring, for the rest of your life, not waiting until you're 65. :D
BTW portorock---that's exactly what I want to do, except through Quantico. ;)

I'm the IT Director at a State Agency in S.C. Given that the computers are gov't property I sadly cannot use the 450+ systems at my disposal to fold. Given a 4 year life cycle, we may buy 100 2GHz processors this year that sit idle most of the day. My major apps are now ASP so there is not a lot of demand on the local cpu.

:(

Past "careers" include a stint as a Naval Flight Officer in the early '70's and a "Senior Engineer" with Digital Equipment Corp". Remember DEC? If you have a Nuclear power plant in you area, odds are that systems I wrote monitored the loading of the fuel rods and a friend designed and wrote the system that checked the weld integrity of the fuel rods.

I am sure that it is but if you only knew what I go through. Some days, I cannot tell if the administration is more looney that the clients. They gave me 15 grand to network the building and then took it away because they decided that they could save 2 grand by hiring an electrician to run the wires?!?

22 grand later, we have several computers that connect to the server ar a whopping 1 mb/minute. I kid you not!
