View Full Version : Has any one any helpfull hint of over clocking a Geforce 2 GTS
Hello im a bit of an amiter at the art of over clocking and have a Geforce 2 GTS currently run at core:210 MHz memory:370Mhz using the latist detornator drivers + coolbitz.reg
it still has the standard mini radial fin cooler and i think i need a bigger cooler ans was wondering wot sort of thinf i needed i also need the solition to be quiter and was thinking i might get the quite pc video cooler see <http://www.quietpc.com/vgamb.php>
with or with out a slow runing fan to add cooling capasity
im a amiter please advise on wot you did, will, would do please
p.s i have change my CPU cooler to the quite pc radial fin cooler and found this a faily easy task !
Thank again daniel

whats the default clock on that card?
i'd suggest using rivatuner from www.guru3d.com

a good way to see what, if any, results youll get from better cooling is to open the case and blow a house fan directly on the card. ive had two cards i modded and both eventualy settled at the speed i was able to get with stock cooling and a large house fan blowing on them. my advise would be to try the house fan before going any further and....
Welcome to the forums
how do i know weather more cooling is needed and what results would i be looking for at the mo it is a little to hot to touch comfortable but i am experecning no side effects as yeht
also i am almost sertinly going to change the cooler any way ans it makes to much of a din (louder then the psu and cpu)
thanks any way
I tryed a my 80mm case fan and it make it cooler but wat resuts am i looking for ?
i cannt place an extra fan in at the mo cos i not got noware to plug it in Ill run the case fan from a 4-3pin addapter when i get one

if you start to see the picture having artifacts or little errors then you're on the edge of stability. overclock all you want until you start to see those... then upgrade your cooling and DO IT AGAIN! :)
hi dhutch, welcome to the forums!
I love GTS cards, they are really fast and really cheap, plus great overclockers:)
So far yours is at a pretty good OC, but you can go farther. Using just stock cooling, mine went to 225core, 393 memory. After strapping on teh huge RAMsinks and water cooler, my GTS is now happily cruising along at 250/424. Not bad, eh? :D (defaults are 200core, 333DDR mem)
Don't put too much effort into core overclocking on the GTS- it really makes very little difference. I get a gain of ~25 3dmarks from my 50mhz core overclock! The GTS is primarily memory-bandwidth limited.
Concentrate on RAM overclocking- the faster your RAM, the higher resolutions you can play games in, at faster speeds. I got 700 free 3dmarks just from OCing the RAM on mine. So I stuck a Pentium3 heatsink on it:D
By the way, do you know about 3DMark2001SE (http://www.madonion.com)? It's a great program for benchmarking your card, seeing how much faster it is now that you've overclocked it.
here's a pic so I can brag about my GTS, lol, check it out!

You need to cool the GPU as much as possible- not to overclock the GPU, but to remove it's heat before it can leech into the RAM and hinder RAM overclocks.

 wheres the rest of the card?? all i see is big hunks of metal! haha!
Thanks for all the tip - keep um coming please
the default speed are as monters of rock states 200core and 333memory
thank again
can any one recomend a brand of quite heatsink to cool the core?
it the quite pc.com video card coole ne good as a faned heat sink
or the northe brigh heat sink on the same page

That sink will prevent you from using RAM sinks. I used to overclock my GTS, but I didn't see much of a gain in performance so I quit trying.
Adding better RAMsinks will help a TON. Allelectronics.com has some extruded aluminum heatsinks for $1 apiece that will work perfectly after a little trimming with a band saw.
And alas, my GTS doesn't have mounting holes, so putting a new sink on the GPU would be a huge hassle.
