Google is moving up fast. They were at 9K/week like 2 weeks ago, now they are at over 13K/week. They have like 3100 folders, hmmmm wonder how many even KNOW they are folding? If you click on google's team at www.statsman.org you will notice their usernames: google2344544858344 etc. Makes you wonder...

Well, they were still in testing. I believe that their production increased because the test group increased. IIRC you have to specify that you want the client to run in the toolbar options. ie opt in only. Totally white hat if that's true.

Yea I been keeping an eye on them too. Every update the get like 20-50 more members.

They will be unstoppable if they take it out of beta testing.

then the top four teams will have to join up into the "stopping google" team!

Argh!!! I'm finding myslef very conflicted about this whole Folding @ Google story.

One one hand, I live and die by the information I find in Google. If you're an IT person, you *have* to use Google to help trouble shoot, do research, or find any other referential data to just about everything.

Furthermore, the company I work for has excellent placement in the Google search index. Almost 30% of our new traffic orginates from the results of Google searches.

However, this whole Folding without consent, or with a "checkbox" (like the average user knows what they are or are not doing with the check box), really chaps my hide.

I think I'm going to compose a "Computer tips from a Geek" email and send it out to the 75 or so people in my address book. In this mail I'll mention F@H (for team 32) and NOT to download the Google toolbar....

I think you're more likely to put many people off doing either - can't we just pretend that Google is another team 0 and ignore their ranking anyway? :p

Just my opinion

Yeah, I agree with rich. Google is just like the anon team. They're not really a team, just people who have no idea that Google is stealing CPU power.

hehehe - well you can't be right all the time so may as well make the most of it once in a blue moon :p

Google isn't stealing anything. Folding@Google is an *OPT IN* feature of the toolbar, so if the user says they can use their CPU to fold then well, its not stealing.

::EDIT::

The same goes for the Rage3D Tweak Utility.

Good opinion especially as it happens to coincide with mine ;)
Google isn't going to be a real team as teams go. It's going to be more like Team 0 than Team 0 is. At least the no team team people pick their own name.

What's that old saying? "Even a broken clock is right twice a day" :D :p

I happen to agree with you 100% rich, google is a non-entity as far as competition between teams in my book.

huh? I thought Google folding was OPT IN only. You specifically had to say you wanted to join in in order to fold anything.

I think it's absolutely fantastic that a "big" corporation is so public minded that it doesn't mind getting involved in important things like cancer busting. So it'll bump everyone else down one place, so what?

Besides, Google told me in an email that they are going to change it eventually so that you can choose your own name and even team number.

For those of you still stressing over Google, GET OVER IT! I seriously don't understand why some of you have a problem with it. Logically, it doesn't make a lick of sense. Look at how many folders it's already attracted in a beta stage. How is that not good?

And I think my post was positive as opposed to trying to diss everyone with a contrary opinion.

LMAO....

Google is the premium source for techie info and other search related topics. However, I wasn't planning a one man crusade against the corporate giant. Nor do I need to GET OVER IT!!!!

Trust me, there is more in my life than worrying about the endless users they will recruit from this tactic. Furthermore, I agree with Ploaf that this will be a non-team team.

I was merely noting that when I look at the multicolored Google I will feel a slight twing of confliction in addition to the warm and fuzzies I have now.

One interesting note, if you go here (http://toolbar.google.com/) you can see that there is no mention of the client on the main page prior to the download, but they did put "stanford" in the search bar.
