The CPU is a good choice, people are hitting 3 gigs with air cooling with it.
The Alpha heatsink with a lower speed fan would be a good choice if you want it quieter, if you don't mind the noise the Alpha or AX478 with a Delta is a good choice for a heatsink.
The only issue with the IT-7 is it's got no PS/2, serial or parallel ports, it's only got USB ports. If you have any devices (keyboard, mouse, or printer for example) that don't work on USB they won't do you any good with it. I'd go with the BD7-II if you need PS/2, serial and/or parallel ports or go with the BD7-II RAID if you want the built in RAID controller.
Check the CPU database at overclockers.com to see what combos other people are running also.

I agree with the above statment....
yet if you want to save a few dollars I would go with a 1.6a if you can still get it in stock.(use the bd7II mobo also)
it OCs like a dream, and peeps are hitting close to, if not 3.0ghz with watercooling.
look at me...2.471ghz with a panaflow on ax-478.
I beat out a 2000xp cpu at same fsb, in 3dmark2k1.:D

My only concern with that statement is watercooling and a 1.6a is generally gonna cost you more then air cooling and a 2.26. Don't get me wrong, I have a 1.6A and I love it but I'd love to get my hands on a 2.26 now :D I guess it comes down to how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go.

Yeah. Watercooling is expensive. I do it, and I think it's worth it, but plan on putting out about $80-100 for the parts and a few hours putting it together. My 1.6A gives me 2.4 on air and 2.5 on water. Worth it? You decide. It means 200mhz on an AMD system, though. There it is DEFINITELY worth it.

why only 2.5ghz on water???
I'm talking, 175fsb or higher on water...that's 2.8ghz or higher.
as for price...$135 for cpu, $125 for watercooling.
you'll spend $40 for HS and $6 for fan....thats on top of 2.26b cpu($275 retail at the egg).
your choice.

Not to be picky but the 1.6A's have gone back up in price, they are $152 at Newegg and the 2.26's have dropped to $253.
So for a 1.6A and watercooling your looking at $277 and with a 2.26 and a heatsink your looking at $299. Your talking 24 dollars more for a processor that has been hitting 3 Ghz on air as opposed to trying to push one to it's limits hoping you'll get it close to 3 Ghz after spending the time to hunt down parts to keep your water cooling set up under 125 and also time spent setting it up.
