View Full Version : Temp Probe on my Epox 8K3A+ Says cpu is 52 C and its watercooled?

I dont know what the deal is. I have a Black Ice Xtreme Radiator and Eihem 1068 pump and a Blizzard Z4 waterblock. I dont see how the heck my temps can be so high. I also have some AS3 on there as well. Ill try and reseat the block when I get home later but what else could be the problem. I dont have it overclocked and its at stock voltage. Whats wrong?
The 8k3a+ reads the temperature straight from the core of the cpu itself instead of from in the socket under the chip. This gives more accurate temperatures. I have an 1600xp@1920mhz on my 8k3a+ watercooled. It stays right around 60 degrees, it's fine.

I have the same MOBO, I'm H20 Cooled also and those temps are a little high! With my XP 1600 at 2.05V at LOAD my temps are 42C. This is with Prime 95 & Folding running at the same time:

I suppose the diode reader could be off but mine seems to be semi accurate. When I had my MCX462, temps loaded around 60C, with the Quiet Power Load of 49-54 and with my new setup well you see, 42C. The funny thing is, people with insocket thermistors with air cooling are like, dude, I load at 32C, my temps are better than yours with air, who needs water? If they only had a clue...:D
<---EDIT--->
When I installed my new waterblock and booted up, my temps climbed to around 62C, I was like WTF? I reseated the block and presto, Idle temps of around 36C.

Well Ill try to reseat it right now. Wish me luck.
I got it fixed!!! Temps down to 32C. Is that really even that good for watercooling? O well better then 52.

32C with an on die reading is EXCELLENT!!! What are you at load? Do you fold? If not you should!!!

At load its about 35-37. I also have the Video card inline with the cpu so I guess its a good temp.

Heh - not really related to the thread, but I had to mention this somewhere...
If you have an 8K3A or 8K3A+ board, and are tired of the high temp readings due to the on-die thermistor readings, just upgrade to the new 2626 BIOS (I think you can grab it in the Epox board). Seems like it reverts back to the in-socket thermistor.
Imagine my surprise when I booted after the update to find my system and CPU temps at 27C :), when the on-die readings were sitting at 53C before that (XP2200+ at 11.5X170, 1.75V).

This does not work for Palaminos, this is a fix for the T-Bred only.

I use the A7V333 MB that uses On Diode temp measuring and my load temp is normally between 41-43 with an ambient temp of 24C. 41C when folding, 42-43 when folding and running Prime95. I personally love the On Diode measuring compared to the insocket probe.

Actually, I wasn't considering it a 'fix' - more like a bug. Unless I am missing something about the BIOS change.
I was under the impression the change was that the BIOS is (incorrectly) reporting the in-socket temp, not the on-die temp. Are you suggesting there is something more at work here - like actually implementing the halt-on-idle properly?
I went back to the 2619 BIOS, since I figured that the 2626 was obviously not qualified if it had a bug like that in it.

wtf thats really good. What do u have for h2o system?
I'm getting approximately the same results: about 42C max temp when the CPU is getting hammered (Seti and Prime95 at the same time...).
My watercooling setup consists of a Maze2, Eheim 1250, 1/2" Silicone tubing, and an '87 Chevette heatercore. No reservoir.
So, I take it the problem was an improper seat to the waterblock?
32C is EXCELLENT.
