Alright here goes, I plug my hd into my Primary IDE and boot up with out my cdrom and it works fine. I plug my cdrom into my sec. ide and it ask for a system disk:mad:

Check the jumpers on the back off the CDROM and HD.
The CDrom should be set to slave and the HD to master.
Also make sure that the HD is the first device on the cable and the CD Rom the Second.

I think modman ment that he plugged the CD-ROM in on its own IDE cable. In that case, make sure that the CD-ROM is set to master. You could also try putting the CD-ROM as a slave to the HD on the same cable. If it works then, there is something wrong with the cable, or the secondary IDE.

if i have one hd and cd-rom.. 2 ide cables.. should i set both to master??? of wil master (hd) slave(cd) on one cable be better??thhnks

Don't make them both be on one cable...that will slow down both of the devices...the ATA thing can only handle so much info...
Give the HDD its own seperate wire always...but I put CD roms together since they don't burst at as high speeds as HDDs do
