The title says it all... I am looking for somewhere to get some 25ohm 5 watt, or somethign similar rheostats... I know there is always radio shack, but I try to avoid them on principle... anyone know of other places?

although I'm not 100% sure I would say try places like allied hobbies or anyhobby store, electrical store, maybe a place like lowes, and of course radioshack :D

You may want to drop Hoot a message. I bought my rheostats from him. He may have what you're looking for.

hoot has ran all out of the rheostats and has asked me to pass the word on about him running out.

I get all my electronics from www.jameco.com You could check them out. They might have what you’re looking for.

Thanks for the word. Too bad, though; I was looking to grab two more from him. Do you know where Hoot got those, by any chance?
Check out here (http://www.surplussales.com/Potentiometers/PotsRheost.html). They have all types and sizes of rheostats at varying prices.

nice link stool... my next question is this: I have seen some fan control things that instead of actually varying the voltage they vary pulse rate of the 12 line to the fans so that they mantain their 12v just not under power all of the time. Does anyone know if there is something of this nature that you can buy or is this one of those cases where I would have to sit down and design a circuit to build myself...?
Just an idle curosity... heh if I install all of the 120mm fans I have coming I am going to need something so that I can still sit in the same room as my PC =).
Do you mean like this (http://www.bit-tech.net/article/51/2), or this (http://www.hardware-corner.net/guides/fanbus_1.php) ?

You know, most things Auto Zone has are a bit overpriced. Then, they are a retail auto parts store...what should I expect?
I walked in tonight to pick up a can of primer (on sale) and some LEDs and found a new switch of theirs that I hadn't ever seen before in an Auto Zone. It was a good size for a 5 1/4" bezel and came "pre-wired." Well, that makes my life a tiny bit easier. I picked one up for about $2.50 to try it out and it's looking good. Now all I need for my fan control v2.0 is insulation board for mounting my fan-lead interface. I wish I had a circuit printing machine! Haha...don't we all?
Point of the post: Auto Zone will often have just what you were looking for. Don't count out auto stores just because they're a little more expensive. You can take it home right then and you don't have to pay for shipping. -It's always a good idea to support your local businesses anyways.
