I have a packerd bell legend 11cd and I just formatted and went to put in a fresh copy of win. 98. Well I booted with a 98 floppy boot disk and chose cdrom support...The problem is that after it starts loading I get the error "no valid cdrom device drivers selected" so I'm assuming that the floppy drivers wont work with this cdrom (Panasonic CR-563) Well I've managed to find the drivers for this drive but am unsure how to go about getting the it to use these drivers with no os installed ...

Seeing only 4 people have looked at this and I need to get this thing running..I'm gona give er a freindly lil "BUMP!!"
I assume you ment to say it failed to find valid CD rom drivers because you said it read from the floppy.
Well I'm no expert put try this it can't hurt:
1)Try to get another copy of the win98 install disk.
2)Borrow or buy another cd player untill you get Win98 installed.
3)from DOS you can load the driver you have but the question is will it run in DOS
good luck
Sorry I may have not been clear... try one of the three. Either alone may get you there.

The Windows 98 CD should be bootable. When the computer 1st starts, press Del, F1, etc to get into the Bios. You should find an option for boot order. If possible move the CD-ROM to the first position and reboot with the Win98 CD in the drive. It should load and give you the option to install windows.
Also, dumb as it sounds check the cables to the CD-ROM, sometimes reseating the cables will do the trick.

Or, get a Win 98 boot disk from bootdisk.com. I have yet to encounter a CDRom that didn't work with those generic drivers...
Be sure to note the letter that gets assigned to the CDRom, I think it is "R" with that bootdisk...

Oh bubba. Your in for a world of hurt on this one.
What your going to have to do is either:
A, Get a parallel cable external CD-ROM.
B, Get a copy of Windows 95A floppy disk installation set.
Do you have any system stats for this old PackHell?
Exactly how does this CD connect to the motherboard? Grey cable? Is there a safety notch collar around the IDE connector on the motherboard? Did you line the red streak with pin1 on the motherboard IDE connection?
There are a million issues to deal with on a machine that old. I might be able to walk you through them, but chances are I won't. I will try though.

That's my point. Most any other CD ROM will not use the sound card only an ide port. Plug it in there. That way the drivers on the 98 startup disk will work with the new CD Rom.
I had one of thoes old style cd players myself, IMHO they are trash. How old is that thing anyway?

Copy the drivers you found to your boot disk. Then edit the config.sys file. Look for cdrom.sys or similar and replace with the name of your driver. That should load the new driver for your cd-rom.

How many drives are being displayed in the BIOS?
Do the BIOS even recognize the fact that CD-ROMs ever existed? Meaning when was this box built?
Wait a minute. Don't you have a 3-point grey ribbon? Why are you going through the sound card? You should be able to set the HDD and the CD on as master and slave on a single cable.
This is a desktop model, right?

I had a friend who had one of those, and I put 98 on it for him. I never did get that CDROM to work. You can use an IDE CDROM with that thing if you have one. This site www.geocities.com/politalk/cdrom/cddos.htm has the rundown on how to install that thing in DOS. Scroll down to where it says "Propriety CDROMS" (sic). I don't know if the links for the drivers are still good, it's a pretty old page. Good luck!
Edit: the links are still good.
