View Full Version : ARgh!!!!
Sigh:mad:
Was just finishing up leak testing on my new rig, and I noticed that my water was all foaming and started to leak out of the top of my air trap (left the lid open for bleeding).
After examing the whole setup, I noticed a drips of water coming off the corner of my water block!!
I have a TC-4 with the poly top, and have no clue what went wrong????
Did the seal just give in? It just shouldn,t randomly do that!!!!
Ill try and tighten the top on more. WTF
Just when I was all ready to put the mobo in too!

UUUUUUrrrhhh !!!!
LEAKS what a nightmare take 2 headache tablets and lie down...
then seal that muther fire up...
sorry to hear about that...been thinking of going water...your post makes me nervous!
why the foaming??? is the pump doing that?
The foaming is caused by the water mixing with the air. In the spot that the water is leaking out, air is being sucked in. So at first glance the water wetter foams very quickly and bubbled out th top of my air trap.
But bad news aside. I emailed the guys at Dtek (Danny) and they said thell'y send me a copper soldered top if i wish. They also underlined that this is one of the first leaking problems they heard of. I kinda belive them. If you saw the craftsmanship on thses blocks you'd trust these guys too.:p
Well all ended well. thank GOD!!! I found the leak before putting the rest of the stuff in. phew
Good reminder to me that leaks happen to the best, LOL
Looks like you are set...
The reason I want to Wcool is NOISE...my system sounds like a jet turbine but the whole water thing makes me a little nervous. I MAY get a Swifty Quiet Kool (I can get them at cost) turn key rig around January (right now back-to-school and then XMas buying season is inflating costs of secondary parts)
What I am interested in is the Peltier versions of the swiftech...what do you think about them?? Is there any way around the $200 dedicated 25w PS for the main pelt???? This came up in another thread but I got scorched so left.....
I think that you should first have some expirience with watercooling w\o pelts before you go into that.
Pelts are very impratical to me. Too much troulbe for an extrta 100Mhz that a pelt could give me. If ur afraid of leaks, pelts will make u sweat more!!!! Condensation comes into play !:D

leaks dont all the h20 nuts out there hate them!!! i lost a gf2 ti to a leak lol oh well we all learn some time lol.
i find that a smear of silicon alrounf joins and fitting does the job for me.
Yah...I have exp with Swiftechs MC1000...exc design man...but processors are too hot for double digit watt pelts now.
Maybee U right and just stick with straight watercooling BUT Gabe (Owner of Swiftech) told me his tech pulled 300fps+ in the Nature scene of 3DMark with the watercooled 80w Pelt on the GPU. That's some serious firepower!!!
I called to brag I peaked at 90fps :eh?:
I heard that a UV makes all the tubes flouresce...KOOL!!

sorry to hear man, maby take the top off and reseat the O ring? try that,
this is why i soldier everything, even the hosebarbs... everything is soldiered in so no chance of leakage!

I think it would be better for barbs to be screwed on. If you put a bit of teflon around all threads I think that would be more leakproof then then solder, and it would also be easier to change out...for example if you had a block with 3/8" fittings you just unscrew it take it out and screw in a 1/2" barb...Just my thoughts
:D
I found the reason for the leak!!!!
Looks as though the screws that hold the top down were too tight, and caused a crack in the poly.
Im kinda freaked out how easily a little crack can cause such a serious leak!! I lost like 3/4 of the water in my sys by the time I noticed it!!!
I don't know whether or not to go with the CopperTop or get a replacement Poly TOp???
Any suggestions???????? (I imagine that a copper topped one would perform marginally better , because of heat disapation)

i doubt youll see performance out of a copper top, but i suggest the copper top...
Yeah .. I take great comfort knowing my soldered on top will NEVER leak ..
Thats why I kept the rad and pump outside the case .. I didnt make those :D
