Is anyone running this combination? And did you or do you, see any reason to remove the rubber standoffs from the CPU?

I would never remove the standoffs. They are there to support the HSF so that you don't crack the die.

I removed one of the standoffs while trying to unlock my xp1800. Within a day or two i had fried it from an uneven mounting. I would keep them on. Only a little corner of the core left an imprint. Oh well, looks like just case mods for a few weeks till i have the cash for a new cpu.
With that heatsink no way! I removed those pads when I had a Volcano seemed to help few degrees, but then I had a socket hold down for a waterblock, and it chipped the core because of probably the pressure being applied to hold down the block. If the heatsink is anything like mine, there's a point where you screw it and it stops because it needs pressure to be turned and that's the point where you stop.

Actually the mounting system of this HSF is by far the best I've ever seen. You UNSCREW it to mount them and the spring around the bolts hold the heatsink in place. The main reason I ask is because
1. This is my first Socket A AMD.
2. The wife aint gonna let me buy another if I kill it.
3. It just don’t look right. The imprint from the thermal grease is a complete square, I can’t see daylight through it, but it just doesn’t look like it’s sitting on there right.
I don’t know, maybe it’s just my nerves. I really should have ordered a shim.
shims worth it? im thinking about getting one for my xp with slk-600

Yea I know what you mean. That's correct, no matter how much you turn the screw it doesn't matter because it's the spring holding it down. Looks good. Finalyl switched over to the darkside huh? :)

I wouldnt say turned to the darkside....I still have my anti-AMD sentiment. But alas, I can't look a gift horse in the mouth. A buddy gave me a socket A motherboard for free.
Everyone gets an upgrade out of this too.
My main dually rig will got to the server. The server guts (AMD SLot-A 850) will go to the wife. The wife's dually (Celeron 500's) will go to the kid. The kids 200MMX will get donated to the local school.
And if you count them up, the Intel CPU's in my house still out number the AMD's, :)

ECS K7VZA.
Most reviews showed it as being a fast and stable board. Just no overclocking options for 133Mhz FSB chips. And it runs on SDRAM not DDR.
But this board will do fine while I save up for the new Soyo Dragon.
