Anyone else here playing this? or am I the only one that likes this kind of game.
It's kinda cool, you actually have to buy cards to play with online.
You make decks, trade cards, play in tournaments.
Overall I think I might play this game quite a bit.
The neatest thing I've found out about the game is that any of the cards that you have online you can request real ones to be mailed to you. (but then you can't play with them online)
BTW if anyone is playing this my screen name is "Ted Bundy"

yea its pretty good. trying not to get to into it for fear of spendign money. im only $17 in the hole so far
I used to play the actual card game, but I don't think I could play it online. Just sounds too campy. I like interacting w/ people in RL.

why the hell would i want to buy the cards online if i could buy them in real life instead? i think that a fake-money system would be cool in the game but you'd never catch me buying the cards with real money...unless that is the way that they pay for their servers, similar to MMORPG costs.

Jeff Bolton: The cool part of it is is that you are actually are buying the cards. There is an option that you can select for them to send you the cards that you have in your online account.
Oni no Oni: I used to play too, and I find that this is actually pretty close to the experience that I had with people IRL. You can chat and play at the same time. Heck me and this one guy played for about and hour and the game ended in 13 turns.
Phanton Punisher: What's your screen name? What room do you tend to hang out in? I'll try to find you and let you stomp on me. :p :D
All in all I think WotC have a good idea in the fact that you can get the cards you have one line delivered to your house. That's cool. Think about it, if I go online and trade with possibly thousands of other players. At any time I want to I can have those cards shipped to me so that I can play them down the street at the local shop.
EDIT: just noticed I got my fifth star!!! WOOHOO!!!

I used to play a little with the real cards, but i never spent any money on it. A friend of mine was really into it, so i sually used one of his decks.

Well, it's a card game. The goal is to get Creature type cards on the table, and drop your opponents HP from 20 to 0.
I'm sure if you asked your kids, they could give you a much better explanation. I could go more indepth, but I don't wanna do that much typing.

Well if you have broadband you could download the demo (be warned it's huge weighing in at 309MB!)
Or if you happened to pick up CD version of the August 2002 issue of Maximum PC it's on the demo disk.
It lets you play for around two hours and there are some very helpful tutorials that you can use.

Just thought I'd bring this thread back up to the fore front.
I've gone ahead and made a clan for....uuummmmm.....anyone who want's to join :D
The clan name is "overclockerclans"
And on another side note. I'm kinda PO'd at Wizards of the Coast.
I've been informed that my user name "Ted Bundy" is not acceptable and that I'll have to change it. This is crap. Their reason for asking me to change it. Here's the email I recieved from WotC.
Hi,
I have been thinking this one over, and I am going to agree with the Adept that it needs to be changed. It is not just the serial killer name, it is also that it is such a recognizable name that is also touches on our "no impersonation" rules.
From the Code of Conduct. no:
impersonation of another person, site staff or Wizards employee by either screen name or self-representation (e.g. faking a screen name by using similar-looking characters, "spoofing" speech in a chat room, or claiming to hold an official title or position relating to the site)
Names, like yours, are a close call and we look at them on a case by case basis. Since "Ted Bundy" is so recognizable and quite nefarious I am going to ask you to change it. If you could send me your top 3 choices for alternate names, I will arrange to have the account name changed so you don't lose any cards, status etc.
I understand that this is an inconvenience and I appreciate you time and patience.

The whole basis of there argument is that under the Code of Conduct I am "impersonation of another person, site staff or Wizards employee by either screen name or self-representation (e.g. faking a screen name by using similar-looking characters, "spoofing" speech in a chat room, or claiming to hold an official title or position relating to the site)" Does this not sound like it's reffering to Wizards staff and employees?
Anyway I've told them that I expect to be compensated :D for this inconvenience and I've also told them that if they don't want the names of serial killers and other neffarious criminals that they should filter them out. If they would have done this I would've picked another name and not have had any problems with them.

I used to play magic at lot, but I kinda stopped after Wotc announced the 1.x rotation. Kinda angered me cause I was in the process of collecting the dual lands and such. Anyway, I actually considered using Magic Online. The only thing that turned me off from it was the price. I would pay more for online cards than I do real ones. IMHO, that ludicrous. Anyway, how is the game? Do you feel its designed well? How easy is it to do a draft (if anything, thats what I would use it for)? Also, are you allowed to trade in any online card for a real one, or do you have to have an entire set online inorder to do the trade (thats what the policly was originally, I think)? BTW, your name trouble is quite dumb on Wotc's part. Its a online name, as long as you don't curse, what's the difference? Not like anyone actually thought you were Ted Bundy:)

I actually find the game very similar in the way that it plays out. And one of the BEST things about playing online is so bloody simple it sounds stupid saying it. NO MORE RULE DISPUTES!!!!
The game plays remarkably well. I was pretty sceptical of the game when I first installed it. ( I got it off the MaximumPC/CD Aug02) I thought I'd give it a shot and see how badly they messed it up. Well I was just plain flabbergasted. It is FUN.
The game is VERY strict, ie if you get caught cheating you can kiss all your cards good bye. (and at 60-75 cards for $10 that's not cheap)
Yes you can do draft games. All you do is buy the packs oline that you would need for the draft. Login in and there they are in your "collection binder" sign up for the draft and start playing. (this is all i can tell you about it becasue I have yet to play in a draft tournament.
There's online tournaments. You have to buy tickets to play in them. Why? Because they actually give away stuff. very neat idea IMO.
If you have the august 2002 Maximum PC CDversion pop in the disk it's on there and it also came with September 2002 PC Gamer. There is a free trial included with the game. It's actually the same app you need to play the full version of the game, but becasue your cards aren't stored on your HDD they don't need to make a comercial package.
How that for neat-o factor? Give away the app and let the fees the player pays pay for the rest. Maybe Sony should take notice for their MMORPG's
i use to play back when 5th edition just came out. I have a full set of Visions, Ice age, and 5th edtion.... i spent alot of money on it and i sitll have alot of cards and held a black lotus one time.... i was nationly ranked because i use to play in type II toruments...sigh those where the good days...

I had: 2 mox diamonds, soome kind of gauntlet that was worth 70$, about 10 dual lands (i never used them), and 3 or 4 1st edition Shiven (sp?) Dragons:)
i bet whoever stole em had no idea of their value:(
find out about if u need the whole set or just individual cards, thats sounds sweet

Just spoke with some of their tech support guys and found out about that card redeem feature.
You must have a full set inorder to redeem it. But IMO it is still pretty cool.

If you can send in your deck and have it added to your account I would play online, I have some decent decks, and have spent a lot of hard earned money on cards. Unless I can send in my cards and have the all added to my account, I'm afraid to even try the online version. I know I would get just as addicted to that as I did to the cards, and I don't really want to go an spend that much money again.
Actually I wish I could find people in my area that play...

I too have a healthy collection of cards. But all of them are older. Like most of them are revised edition. And they don't have any of the old versions in the game.
The one think that I like about it is that there is always people to play against. Always. I've been on at 3am and still had plenty of people to play against. And that's what has made me want to play this game.
I loved the card game and the only reason I stopped playing is because everyone in my home town either a) stopped playing altogether, or b) only play in draft tournaments. I didn't feel like building my own kick *** deck and not be able to play it in a tournament becasue everyone plays draft so I stopped playing. Now that it's online. I can go out and play. Any time I want to.

Or if you happened to pick up CD version of the August 2002 issue of Maximum PC it's on the demo disk.
The program is not actually on the disk, when i installed it, it downloaded the program from the website at the same time that it installed it. I have a cable modem though so it was hard to tell the difference.
Also, how much do you have to pay for each deck/card and do you have to buy packs like real cards where it is random or can you pick what cards you want? Also can you create a deck then buy the cards for that deck. I was playin around with the demo and i got into a deck builder that i didnt really understand how it worked because even though i made a deck i couldnt use it at all.
I would also be intrested in trading in my existing cards for online cards if that is possible.
I originally started playing the card game around 3rd edition. I never had anything phenominally cool, but I do have some nifty rares/uncommons (Fork, Wheel of Fortune among others). I got out when they fuxx0red the rules in 5th edition . . . or was it the set after that . . . ? I can't remember.

How can i join the clan if I sign up. You got a website for it or anything?
IcarusFalling

I think you pretty much have to find me online and ask if you can join.
I'm getting married today so I doubt you'll see me online after I make this post. Grab my ICQ/MSN info and just try to get a hold of me that way

Ok, I signed up, my name is Martian Penguin. Can you add me to the clan? are there any benefits to belonging to clans or anything or is it just for fun to play with people that have the same intrests as you. Like are there team tourny's or somthin that we can join?
By the way, congratualations!
Is there anyone else besides me, phantom punisher and IcarusFalling that are playing this game?
