View Full Version : 9000Pro vs 8500
Well as u can see in my sig i really need a new video card. I was waiting for the R300s debut so the AIW8500 would drop in price. But now ati has the new 9000 series cards. From what i've read the 8500 is better. Can someone help validate this?

well, the 9000 was more designed to replace the 7500, so in most cases the 8500 is faster. But later this year there will be a 9500 which is aimed more at the replacement of the 8500 which will be basically a slower version of the 9700. So I say go for the 8500, but maybe wait a week because 9000 might lower the price just because it's a newer card and most people would think a 9000 would be faster than an 8500 right??

yes you are right the 9000 will be followed by the 9500 which will be in some instances slower than an 8500 but it is designed to go head to head with the G4 MX series where it is flat out a better buy with newer technology.
The sub $200 video cards is where the money is at for video card makers.
Right now the radeon 128 DDR is prolly the best buy other than a Ti4200, if you find it aggresively priced it is a very good card. It is not as fast as a Ti4200 and it does not have DX 9 support but then again DX 9 is uncharted territory as of now and DX8 will suffice fine.
There is also the other option of getting a 128 Radeon LE card at 250/250 and flashing it, from other forums most have had good results getting 275/275 and 300/300 out of them and theyare cheaper.
It is the best buy right now besides a Ti4200 which is a bit more for the 128 version. The more I read a radeon 128 DDR card in LE or other form is a good buy if you get it at a good price.
Soon ATI will discontinue the 8500 series to push the 9000,9500.

on toms hardware they have a review of the 9000pro which gets kicked pretty easily by the 8500. if you want an 8500 you better hurry... no telling how long ati will keep making them.
i need a video card upgrade also ,
but is 9000PRO worth the wait than getting a 8500LE now?
so there isn't ne new technology in the 9000 series cards? I'll need to wait till next month at least before i have enough money for the AIW 8500DV. Do they make a AIW8500 with 128DDR?

www.newegg.com has the AIW 8500 128DDR retail for $283.
$283? American? Looks like I'll take my chances and wait till that becomes Canadian.

yes the AIW 8500 128DDR is very expensive but it sure is nice, about the same performance as my geforce 2 ti4200 but with all the AIW features...
anyone hear anything about a 9500 or 9700 AIW coming anytime soon ??? my wife is wanting a new video card and i figured it would be worth the cash to get one of those if its supposed to be released soon.
Does ne one has ne Specs on the New Rage Theather Chip for the 9000 series? I have 1st generation chip and it work beautifully. I hope they keep up the good work in MultiMedia.

9000=8500 on a .15 and one texture unit taken out. The 8500 had 2.
Basicly .15=more chips per wafer=less expensive to make=more profit for ATi. Good for them, bad for us. Similiarly priced but performs worst.
It's like a 9700MX. Named 9000 but no support for DX9. I guess if it worked for nVidia, ATi will try it too.
Does any one no where i can get some specs on all the Theather chip ATI has come up with?
