Yes you heard right!! I did the ultimate mod for a heat problem...here is the catch...the heat isn't for the computer but for me....the A/C ran out of Freon and it is hot as a crack in the house although the basement(where I am) is a little cooler(it being underground :D)...well since my Bday hasen't come yet(that when I get my new comp) I have a spare delta 120mm 171cfm fan lying around...I used to put it on the desk but I clipped my finger because it almost blew itself off the side....after that it was the end of it being on the desk...
So I got an idea...why not screw it in on the desk a little bit further away from me!! :D
Well that I did...I got the drill and drilled two holes(you'll see why only two) and then scred it in...the problem was that I wanted it to blow on me and the screw worked the other way...you may know what I'm talking about...I have a pic of the screws
can you believe the picture of the screws, the fan is ON going 5800rpms!! WOW!! I got a good camera :D...too bad the rest didn't come out very well =\
Without further ad do do...here is my smartest mod to date :D

why not just put a fan guard on each side. then u can put it closer or hold it up or even strap it to your head!

you'll be suprised...that thing blows your hand back if the air hits somthing very close to it...it is VERY powerful and I rather not hold it even with fan guards...brings back memories of the fight with me and the fan blade...sorry to say I lost

How about fan filters? They mount like fan guards and completely block anything from getting into the fan blades. I personally like the Idea of terrorizing that evil black varmint a yours.

yeah but I rather not have filter for two reasons...
1.they block some airflow...not much but I want ALL air coming at me since it hi 101F over here and humidity is like 70%!! NJ sux in the summer!!
2. it is sweet when bugs get sucked into the fan:D

Yeah, I lost to a Volcano 6 fan.
The tip of my index finger went in...and came out in a gush of blood. Amazing how it didn't short anything out splashing everywhere like it did! I'm still healing and it's been weeks. I can't fingerpick my guitar any more...grrrr!

LOL. I just bough a digital camera (cheap one too, 99USD, refurd, perfect condition). I ran off to try the same thing as you did as soon as I saw it. worked quite well, though it's not going 5800RPM. It's just a desk fan, i have no idea of the speed

Cool. Gotta love it when a company will do something like that for you.
Stoanhart's response reminded me of my air circulator I used once upon a time. When my CPU fan went out, I had to wait for a new one to ship in and so, I used just a little case fan. Only pushed 35 CFMs and my temps shot up. I didn't like that (I was used to 32's at idle, now they were ~45's). On top of that, my chipset fan decided to go out, so I was running a heat risk there too.
I took this air circulator/filter that my father had once used to filter the air in our house, took the side off my case, and blew my pc away. I don't know how many CFMs that was, but it was almost intolerably loud for my gaming settings. My temps were back to normal and I had a conversation piece at that weekend's small LAN I hosted.
I wish I had a digital camera...I'd take a picture of it for you guys.
