It is supposed to affect it! But the other way round. Normally NTFS should be faster than FAT32!

Sorry no idea, why it got slower.

well, the main question:

did u do a clean install? and start clean with NTFS as the file structure?
if not, than that will cause your problems. a nice fresh install does wonders fpr the system

You only have 256MB RAM. I think maybe Windows XP is hogging a lot more than what you used before. What did you use before XP?

NTFS will be from 5-15% slower than FAT32 due to the higher disk overhead. It does make up for this in smaller available clusters for larger drives and better security options.

but u dont really notice the difference.

it could also be that the drive isnt set to UDMA mode 5, or the proper motherboard IDE drivers arent loaded

Hm... Windows 98 Will always run things the fastest.

Sorry, correct me if I misunderstand, but are you saying that you copied another windows CD? If so, please do not mention it as you could get the forum closed down.

Apoligies if I misunderstood what you are saying.

please no discussion of burnt cds and it wont run slower just get the forum in trouble but if you are running xp turn off all the graphical stuff and go to msconfig and turn off all the stuff in startup that you do not need try to ask emericana about how to tweak xp i dont use it but he has had pretty good results of tweaking it http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=105866

the copy was made as a back up in case the original was damaged.

copying the CD isn't the problem...the problem is that you used the CD that someone else pursched...big no no....go back and edit your post and get ride of that so the forums don't get shut down....

and the problem is your RAM...you need atleast 512(I think) to use XP

LOL No you dont

Minimum Requirement: 64

Runs okay on 128

192 Smooth

1536mb of = Smooth

After 192 it pretty much runs the same..

id say that 256mb of ram is minimum for today's software, games, and OS'es.

512 is sittin fine, and is what i will always use till the need for more arises.

the only advantage of 1gig of ram is the elimination of the swap file

Hmm...... I believe 192 Is stable... 128 Can get slugish.

256 Is sufficent, 512 More then enough.

1GB Overkill unless you keep your system up for weeks at a time :O

I had 128 with XP PRO - it was a bit crappy, got rid...
