My only attempt at OC was a total disaster. I tried the graphite pencil method. On startup I heard a pop followed by seeing a spark. Needless to say, my AMD is fried. My system will still power on. The mobo LED shows 00. Not sure what else may have failed.
So now I'm waiting for delivery of an new AMD XP and fan.
I pray (or sorry, I forgot we can't pray) my mobo isn't screwed up.
Just a note. Thanks to all who post here. I have learned some life saving advice here.:)

Sorry to hear that, it sucks! If you will gonna try unlock the XP, better read some guides first, DO NOT EVER forget to fill the pits, and never cross connect any bridges on the CPU!!!
BTW: What are u doing with ur old CPU? If you have no use for it, could I have it for the cost of shipping or something like that please?

I tried 2 unlock my xp2000+ AGIOA 4 (green die). It did not exactly go as I planned 2. I lost the orginal x12.5, and got x8 x11 and x12. Anything else either locks up on POST or defaults at x12(Auto). But I dont really care, cus Im now running it 166x11=1826 and it works fine @ 1.74V. Next time I will do better;)

Unlocked my athlon Thoroughbred 2200+ in 10 minutes with a kind of liquid copper solution meant for rear windshield defroster repair that can be picked up from any auto parts store, a toothpick as a paintbrush, and a 5X jewelers loupe. It is simple to do just take you time! No offence but. QUIT TRYING TO USE A FREAKIN PENCIL which would probably make a connection 1/50 of a human hair and would likely be extremely shaky at the connection points. If you did manage to get it to work I’m sure it would be pretty ugly, there would be graphite dust aplenty ready to fall in the laser ditch, and at some point in the future the connection would fail… LOL

forgot to add all Multi 12.5 and below work fine.

Pencil trick does not work on the XPs or Tbreds...use a conductive pen or defogger paint. The new 2200 is a piece of cake to unlock just paint a half circle around the 5th L3 bridge to connect them..no need to fill pitt, just go around it. You can undo it if needed for an RMA. ...only 1 connection to make.:)
Well, are you sure you fried it? Perhaps your unlocking attempts failed and it cross connected something. Perhaps it may still be alive. Take an eraser and erase the marks off followed by cleaning the bridges w/ isopropyl and a cloth (Preferably lint-free cloth).
If that doesn't work, then I'm sorry for the death of your chip. It's another keychain.

I would do as yodums suggests before I tossed it..I have had "fried" CPUs come back from the grave before just from sitting around for a few days.

In my experience “POPS” or “Sparks” mean short, this equals dead in the world of microelectronics. But there is no harm in trying again since if you cooked you main board and any other components they are more then likely toasted already anyway. Good luck.

He said that the board spins up and led lights work..board may not be fried either. I would check it ALL out before I started tossing out parts..unless you have more money than brains.

Hey is first dude doesnt take it I will be more than happy to make a keychain for myself. :D
BTW People, when your CPU imitates cereal then you have a busted CPU.

Well, actually.
I had a Dragon Orb 3 On a 1200 AXIA @ 1400 the fan crapped out on me, and it was black on the core. I cleaned it all off, and actually it worked, i dunno musta been that i needed to replace it in the socket. Heh, odd. It's often unstable, its now at 1200@1200 AXIA.
AXIA, You will be missed from Overclocking.

I hate it when my board "Spins Up" haha J/K I did not say he should chuck all his component in the trash, I just meant he should be careful when attempting to boot a CPU which quite obviously has a short of some sort (Try blowing out the laser channel with some compressed air, perhaps you got some graphite dust in there). Then he would be using his "brains" me thinks.
