View Full Version : How are the Ram-sinks on the VisionTek GeForce3 attached?
I'm planning on making a waterblock (L-shaped) for the memory on my GeForce3... does anyone know what type of adhesive they used to put the ram-sinks on there, and is there a good way to remove them?
I didn't notice any mounts on mine, so they must use an epoxy compound... could be very difficult to remove without damaging the memory.
Yeah, it's epoxy but it's not too hard to get off. Just use a flat blade screwdriver under the corner of the RAMsink, just be VERY carefull not to knock-off any of the resistors or damage the pcb traces.

The easiest method I have found is to place the video card in a ziplock bag and put in the freezer for 1/2 hour. Remove from freezer and carefully pry the heatsink off w/ a putty or pen knife.
I have done this 4 or 5 times w/ no ill effects.
That's the method I used, but I didn't use a plastic bag... it's a dead GeForce3 anyway... planning on rms'ing it next week.
