Personally It's worth every penny, especially if you get a high cfm fan, without one you will be dissapointed, with an ambient temp of 24c you should be getting load temps around 34-36c on your mobo, however if you drop your ambient temps to 20c you can achieve 30c or lower.
Edit: the fan clips seem to be a little flimsy, personally the retention wires were alot better on the sk-6, could just be mine, but they still get the job done well enough.

How loud does a vantec tornado 84cfm fan compair to say a 68 cfm delta 80mm fan? Also from reviews and seeing a slk-800 it should perform even better if you mount the fan on the side panel and gently funnel down the air onto the heatsink. That way you get to use the whole amount of cfm rather than the 80mm fan hanging over the heatsink. Also you get cool air from outside which is nice.
with any modern heatsink a ducting method is best. When you stick a big fan on a heatsink, its blowing hot, case temp air. If you duct the air from outside, which is always colder, it cools 100x better.

i would like to get the slk-800 too but im not sure if it would be better than what i have now since i did some modding on my heatsink and now im getting 32C cpu idle and 35C on load with my vcore at 1.85 with a delta fan and a volcano 7 base
if i had the extra cash i would try it but for a 1 or 2 degrees i dunno
the ducting will most likely save you some money if you dont want to spend the extra cash
but either way good luck with it and let us know some before and after temps

I'm running a SLK800 and used the AX7 before, kept the same fan (~50+cfm 80mm fan) and setup to see just how much a difference the 800 made. The 800 produces a 2C lower @full load temp. You get to decide if 2C is worth the ~$25 dollars more you spend over the cost of an AX7.
My experience says 1) duct outside air and 2) lapping are the biggest & cheapest improvements. my $.02 anyway.
Oh ya, the fan clips on the 800 are really poor!!! Whoever designed them should get a flying fickel finger of crappy design award.
