matrox has never been a company that produces cards for the hardcore gamers...they have a niche market in the dual head market (now triple head with the release of the parhelia). sure, some cards have dual monitor outs, but matrox excels at this.

can you imagine playing rtcw with three displays? and i don't care what you say, its fast enough...can get pretty high frame rates and i'm betting it wouldn't dissapoint in terms of 3d performance, even though not up to par with ti4600.

i guess what i'm saying is that if you have the money and have three monitors laying around, this card will probably give you all of the performance that you need and you can have triple displays to boot! talk about 1337...:D

It's key weakness was it's CPU clock, so it might actually be worth it if someone came out with an overclocking utility. Bump that clock up to 275 MHz with some good watercooling and it would be a pretty sweet card.

heh a good ole TI 4200 128 DDR will beat it anyday for half the price. You must be mad for going for this card, plus ATI got a new toy ya can chew on :D

Matrox's main target is Videoediting and Workstation cubicles. Believe it or not, their market in videoediting is very big. 10bit per channel and 2-3 displays. 16FAA looks spectacular and doesn't blur fonts like quincunx and smoothvision.

Mayb I just have a good monitor/eye but I think smoothvision looks horrible. Quincunx is just as bad.

Nevermind multiple monitor done in hardware rather than some cheap software overlay that ATi and nVidia does.

I like that Parhelia for some reason. I like all the cool features it has on it like hardware font AA. If you've got the time watch the video review from 3dgameman's site. The card sounds pretty cool to me, but it's too expendsive for me right now.

i have no complaints about my matrox g450...sure i moan and groan because of poor 3d quality, but that isn't the card's fault...it wasn't intended to play jedi knight 2. in fact, i'm very psyched to clean up my room and make space on my window seat/toybox for an extra monitor (gotta move this empty computer case :D)...hopefully sometime tomorrow i'll be able to set up dual head, get some multi monitor action going on, for no reason than to say that i did it. :D

after what i've been hearing, i wouldn't. i thought the r300 was gonna be good, now it looks to be barely better than a gf4 if that.

i'd rather have a gainward 128mb 2.8ns golden sample gf4 ti4600 for the money, lol.

We still don't know how the R300 performs. Remember when the perhelia was said to perform 40% faster than the 4600 w/ beta drivers?

I'll reserve judgement until it's officially out. Until then the R300 is still vapor.
