i hacve a visiontek xtasy geforce4 ti 4200
i was playing a game, and i heard a strange noise, maybe frome the cooler, i opened the pc to see what it was. but it suddenly stopped... so i moved a cable near the fan just in case.
and heres the weird part... the video signal from the card to the monitor went off... so the monitor went blank.......
i restarted the pc and everything worked fine again..... it said there was a drawing error or somehing... all ok since then
but im still surprised... i mean wtf happened? (now that i come to thimk that happened once a lil time ago but i dodnt give importance to it)
I may be way off base on this, but I remember reading that the preproduction Xabre cards made a kind of squeal noise. I believe it was a capacitor or something I have never heard of happening before. I don't think it was the fan because it would lock up after a few minutes, not lose a signal. Just a thought.
-edit: If possible you might want to try and take the card back. It's never good to keep a piece of equipment that expensive that might be broken.

some1 told me it had somethign to do maybe with the mobo or the card that shuts down activity if you touch something while the machine is on ( i dont really believe this)
but actually i cant say anything about the card not working, cos it works ok. and anyway im not supposed to touch any of the stuff inside the pc while its on....
so theres no way the dealer should change it. cos theres no reason at all
well, I guess you shouldn't worry about it. I mean if it has only happened once then it might not be anything. I remember my screen flashed for like a second with strange pixels once, but it has never done it again. I understand how something like that could concern you.
I've had a simillar experience once. I dropped a running fan on my video card while my system was on. A huge pop came from my speakers, and my screen went blank. After praying to every GOD I know, I turned the system back on and everything was fine. I'm sure you still have a couple months on your warenty, so don't sweat it. I'm sure if something bad happened it will show up with some stability issues in the next couple weeks or so. But thats just worse case, you should be fine.

now that i check. it happesns evertime i touch ANYTHING
inside the macine while its on
when i mean touching i mean moving things REALLY gently....... i mean its really far from dropping a cooler on a card
Quicksilver,
2 things to check :
a) Make sure your ground is GOOD. If not good, you may be easily causing a short by touching the frame (or almost anything),... enough to cause maulfunctions.
b) Reseat your AGP / PCI cards and processor. This is another possibility... something just *barely* making contact.

Yes it can, if he shortens something out buy touching...or some part like the vid card is not seated correctly.
I personally wouldn´t touch anything in running machine, especially not the MOBO, the VID card or Sound Card.
Sweat from your fingers is quite conductive you know;)
