Hello...I've been thinking...I want to go dualie:)
ok here is the deal flat out and simple My Bday is coming up soon(weeeee) and I'm allowed to order the parts for a new comp...here is what I had in mind
2.26ghz p4 system bla bla....thing is I want the new AGP 8x boards....then I got to thinking...what if I make my DUAL system now and wait until september/october when the new vid cards and stuff come out and not to mentino my dual system would be less expensive than my p4 system
it would be
2x 1800MPs
1024 Regerstered RAM
2x 120gig WD "SE" in RAID 1
then a 64mb radeon vid card(I do vid editing and Photoshop/bryce/3dsmax 4)And this would be my primary system for a while
so what is a good idea...wait on my main system and make my uber dual system...or make my main system now with now AGP 8x and spend a lot more money(as opposed to saving money if I wait)....
I think that dualie will be good for me...since I do a lot of video editing/bryce/3dsmax and what not...so I think it would be a good idea...
And an update sofar my dad loves the idea of a dual system...lol...he told me not to have wet dreams over the system:D lol
this was a copy paste of this (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=106721) thread...I moved it here since no one would help me:rolleyes:

well, if u r into and mainly use it for video editing/ Bryce / 3DSmax, a duallie is definitly better than any single cpu rig!!
good luck! ;)

Looks like a good plan to me.

also I have been looking at the gigabyte mobo at newegg..(I foget the name)It supports regerstered DDR RAM but when I look under RAM I see NOTHING about regerstered or unregerstered...is there another name for it?

ECC
denotes registered ram I think
Twisted

i just got that board too..and in manual it sates that you must use ecc

ok so ECC means regerstered...got ya...nice
Well my dad gave me the go ahead to get the system...keep it under $2000 :D...so here it is
x2 AMD 1800+ MP Processors $310
Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW Motherboard $225
x2 Crucial DDR2100 512mb $378
x2 Western Digital "SE" 120gb HDDs in RAID 1 $344
Audigy Xgamer $84
ATI RADEON 8500 128MB DDR $162
Lite On 48x12x48 CDRW $93
Some case $150
Cooling $90
S&H and all that BS $100
Total=$1936 or about $2000
Works out perfectly!:D
Any comments...remember this will be my main rig until october(more like christmas:D)

ECC does not mean registered! You can have unbuffered (non-registered) RAM that is ECC and I suppose you could have non-ECC registered ram though I haven't seen the latter.
Last I checked, Newegg only had 1 choice of registered ecc ram and its mostly sold out.

Copy and pasted from Crucial's website.
ECC or Non-parity?
Next, you'll need to decide whether you want ECC or non-parity. ECC can find and correct some memory errors, but it comes with a performance price-it will slow your system by about 2%. Fortunately, memory errors are rare in today's memory chips, so most average users don't have a need for ECC. If you're planning to use your system as a server or other "mission-critical" machine, we recommend ECC. If you're looking for maximum speed, we recommend non-parity.
Registered or Unbuffered?
Your choice of motherboard will determine whether you need registered or unbuffered modules. Registered modules delay the processing of information by one clock cycle, slowing your system. If you are building a mission-critical server, you may want to consider a motherboard that takes registered modules. However, for most users-especially those looking for maximum speed, we recommend using a motherboard that takes the faster unbuffered modules.

Buffered = Registered
Unbuffered = Non-Registered
The GA-7DPXDW requires registered RAM. Read my article (www.overclockers.com/tips048) on the front page about it to get an idea. I used the Gigabyte board.
8x AGP has not shown to provide a significant performance increase. I know it sounds like a lot but the performance increase was actually only about 5%. I'm kicking myself right now for not having a link to back this up but I've seen it in these forums before.
I would build a dual system right now because it sounds like you're going to be taking advantage of it.

well I changed something
NO NEW SYSTEM IN OCTOBER...I saw that article that you were talking about donny...ty for writing it:D...now I get to build one kick @$$ system my dad said...but it changing a lil
x2 XP2000 Processors (save me some money in the long run)
and x2 100gb SE hdds (not x2 120gb)
Ty for everyones help!! In about 2 weeks I'll have the parts coming for a sweet dualie system...hope I don't get a wet dream:eek::cool:
I"M GOING DUALIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent! You won't be disappointed.
Will you be using the Gigabyte board? If you do and you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. The GA-7DPXDW is one of the rarest of the 760MPX boards around so I'll be glad to lend a hand if you need it.

yep that is the board that I'm getting off newegg for $252.00
If I do have any questions I'll ask you first...I got one but i have to draw up a diagram and I have a CS clan match like NOW so I'll come abck and post it:)

Why not just get some samsung pc2700 ecc registered instead of the crucial pc2100 stuff?
You can push up the fsb higher ;) although im not sure it matters on a dual since they dont oc much anyways.

If I am not mistaken, PC2700 Reg/ECC stuff is still pretty rare and spendy. I'd say just stick with some proven brand name PC2100 Reg/ECC for a duallie - it'll have more than enough FSB overclocking potential.

OK I back from that match...for the record they forfeited since only 2 guys should(5v5...big problem there:D)
Anyway Here is my question...I know I'm going to have a LOT off stuff running in this uber system...we talking like that display thing that goes in front of your case(5.25 bay)...neon lights(yes LIGHTS...plural)a whole bunch of fans and crap...and things like CD-RW/gf4 ti4600 or a ATI Radeon 8700 128mb DDR card:D
Here is the question..I don't think that one power supply can handle all of this..since I going to be doing some very mild OCing also...like maybe 10mhz FSB or so..nothing to special...anyway I want to have dual powersupplies but I'm not going to invest into a BIG server case that comes with dual PSUs...I going to get like a 500W and then a 250-300W...now here is my question..how would I make it so that when I turn the computer on the 2nd PSU turns on as well...I think I got an idea but I should definatly run it by you guys first...here is what my picture is describing
I know that it is the green wire and the black wire that "turns on" the power supply...I was thinking I could plug the one powersupply into the motherboard and strip a small peice off the Green wire and one of the black wires...then on the 2nd PSU I could cut the green and black on off, strip the heads of them and then twist it together with their corrosponding colors on the main PSU connector....would this work...I know this dosen't really make sense but I think the pic describes what I mean
Caution...this pic=GHETTO fabulous!!:D
thanx for your input
Spec
EDIT: then the main PSU connector plugs into the motherboard...sorry the pic dosen't show it...I forgot to make the wires longer:rolleyes:

A 550w Antec Truepower would do just fine, even with all of that.

hmm...wow...that must be a good PSU...but for the hell of it would my theory work?

get an enermax file server case (FS-981XPSS) for $140 plus shipping and 2 500w Power Supplies form compgeeks.com, then you would be talking :D thats what i have minus one PS.

Or... just get a full tower Antec case for less money and one decent power supply, for less money. There's really no reason to have two power supplies. Just get an Antec 550 True Power. They're not cheap, but they are very, very good.

I probably but I want to know if my theory about making the PSU turn on atthe same time will work just for the hell of it

Check out this sticky (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88976) in the Cases and Power Supplies section of the forum. Written by stool, it tells how to do exactly what you're asking about.
