anyone know how well these things would work with computer/fan noise? i know it depends on the headphones.
these (http://www.americas.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=213&category=186&maincategory=1) from creative say the work with low freq noise. of course for only $300USD you could get these ones (http://www.bose.com/noise_reduction/personal/qc_headset/) from bose.

instead of cutting down the noise in general, you get rid of it where it really counts, your ears.
but then that only works when they're on you, not when your sleeping across the room. wouldnt a pair of these be as viable as a good set of speakers from a 'i have a really loud comp' standpoint? especially since you wouldnt have to sacrafise cooling performence.

ok, back to my point. any tried them? with a comp? reccomendations?

(sorry i'f i've posted in the wrong section, this is where i figured the people with the loudest comps would be ;) )

I can only comment on the Sony MDR-NC5 (http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/office/accessories/noisecancelingheadphones/mdr-nc5_specs.shtml) that I have.

The noise canceling effect is very good. My case sounds like a mere whisper as compared to the noise from the 9 fans in total in it.

However, noise canceling does tend to add abit of white noise when used. This is mainly because the negative sound wave doesn't completely cacel out the original sound, and there may be a slight time difference. I haven't checked out the Bose, but for $300 they better sure as hell have a manner to adjust the timing.:p

It also works great on planes and trains where I've used these headphones alot.

If your really serious about noise canceling, invest in a over the ear (cup) design instead of the on the ear style that I have. Over the ear headphones tend to reduce outside noise abit anyway, so any noise canceling they may have would work better then mine.

I would never buy these (have no cash...) but those sony ones look nice.
They use Neodymium magnets!
Those things are so strong=)
I can hold up over 20 pounds of metal with a tiny magnet.

Just dont get the heaphones near anything!
Neodymium has a nice range!
I can put a piece on each side of my hand, and have it easily stay there.

The magnets are not really that stong in these headphones. I can hold them against my monitor and not a single hint of color bending. Thier nice, but thier freq range sucks. Only from 30Hz-15kHz. If I'm on the subway, I dont relly notice the freq range. But at home, even with my almost dead cheap-o Radio sHack headphones I can clearly tell that the upper range is missing. It just sounds too muffled to me, hence why I use it mainly for travel and not at home.

Those Sennheiser though look very sweet. If it wasn't for no moola either, I'd get them.:D

Btw, I bought these a number of years ago at a Radio sHack clearence special. Best $40 bucks I spent.

i dont like how active noise cancellation headphones sound. There really is a noticable white noise. And personally I don't much like Sony or Bose that much either. Lol
Senheiser is my brand after I bought my pair :)

iu'm really starting to consider a pair now... those bose have a 30day trial, but thats a weeks paycheque...
for that kind of cash i'd maybe consider these sonys (http://www.sonystyle.com/home/item.jsp?hierc=9688&itemid=40825) and just forget about the noise cancellation.

Those Sennheiser though look very sweet. If it wasn't for no moola either, I'd get them.
wheres the link? i tried looking for them but couldnt find any info

My sony headphones do not have a noise cancellation circuit but they are so well made I can't even hear a nearby pneumatic drill when I am wearing them

They have a decent frequency response too. 20Hz-18kHz. It falls just abit short of my hearing range of 18.5kHz. Man I wish I could get them. Anyone care to donate to a poor, fellow overclocker?

well, amazing how i missed that giant blue label.

from the pic those look like they are flat instead of 'cups'. are they? i hate flat headphones, after an hour or so my ears always feel like theyre being crushed.

Bose are over-priced and are made of poor quality material.

The BOSE work extremely well. I have used them before and I love them but hate  the price.
