View Full Version : Any links on how to mod a heater core for water cooling?

This is probably really simple, but I want to make sure I get it right the first time.

I just bought an 89 camaro heater core and it needs to be fitted with 1/2" barb connectors. One of the pips on the heater core is 5/8" while the other is 3/4". How exactly do I connect the 1/2" barb fitting to these two different size pips? Where do I cut the pipe to get a clean connection while not getting too close to the main body so when I sweat on the new connector I don't undo the original pipes?

Any guides or links out there for this? I looked at the front page, but didn't see anything.

Thanks,
Mark

get a torch and a pliers, heat up the solder and pull hte hoses out and see if a barb will screw into that if it does but has a air gap, then solder it into it

or if you have some 1/2 silicone hose you can persuade the hose to fit over both of these diameters.

I'm in kind of a similar predicatment. I just got a heatercore with 5/8" inlet and 3/4" outlet, and I figure I could get a 1/2" tube to fit over the 5/8" but not the 3/4", what adapters/connectors/barbs do I need to get from home depot to make the modification?
