View Full Version : Which is better
Radion 7000 32mddr
or
G-Force 2 mx 400 64 mb sdr
I am after pure speed for 3d rendering applications like bryce

Taking a look in the 3dm team (http://www.geocities.com/oc3dmark/) sites - it seems the GeForce wins!

Bryce is more CPU intensive than it is video card intensive. I have rendered a bryce movie in the same time with a TNT 2, 8 Mb (worst card I have) and a Radeon 8500, on the same system. (P4 1.6A @ 2.2 Ghz)
The MX is a better card...

The MX is a better card, but I do not know how image quality compares. If someone has experience with a 7000, maybe they could say, but if tradition works out correctly lol, the Radeon would win if you're doing image editing, but dont try to game with one, or in fact either of them :eh?:
The Gf2mx is actually a usable card. The nforce is a gf2 core with 32mb borrowed from the system ram (thank god for twin bank or it would perform like the i810) and I don't plan to upgrade to an external card anytime soon; it's just fine for both image quality and gaming. For serious OpenGl apps you need something like the tomcat. I would not recommend the Radeon.

My vote goes to the GF2.

I'd go with the Radeon. According to the Toms Hardware VGA charts, it beats the MX400 64meg in every test.

my friend has the 64mb version of the 7000, it games ok too. and for about $40 you cant go wrong :D
cant get a link.. damn neweggs new site..
With either one of those cards, you will not see an improvement in rendering speed. This is determined by your processor, not the video card, as was stated above by Spector_306.
As far as the cards go, IMHO the GF2 would be a better card...

why not just fork over the cash for a TI200 or a Radeon 8500?

phfft! if they had acted faster they could have paid $30 more to get a TI200 form 1time.

Radeon 8500LE's ARE budget cards now. Might as well get one of those instead of a $40 card. They perform better than ti500's too.

i wouldnt say that, but they are cheap and are about the same if not better than a Ti200. Ti500's will beat the 8500 LE.

Did a bit more research. Actually, I was wrong. The 8500LE's perform better than ti500's only in open GL. They're pretty close in a lot of other stuff though. And they've got better "2D" image quality, so...
