Yes Gerst...that is a glass cover
Thanks for all the nice comments!
Looks awesome! That's my next mod!
Did you attach the glass with silicone or what?
Some detail on how I performed this mod:
In order to protect the drive from getting "contaminated" by dust etc., I followed an approach where I tried to control the working environment as much as I could while employing speed in the removal and mounting of the new casing. To this end I did the following: I prepared the window before touching the hard drive. The frame for the window was made using a 1/8" solid , square acrylic rod which was glued to a 4"X5-5/8" glass pane. The actual mod itself was performed in my bathroom after letting the hot water in my shower run for approximately 15 minutes. The resulting humidity in the air will "attract" dust and minimize the possibilities of contamination. Afer preping the work area, I removed the screws to the drives original casing and removed it. I placed the new cover on as quickly as I could (a couple of seconds). I placed rubberbands to hold everything in place and proceeded to apply a silicone cement around the edges of the drive where the drive and window met.
Best one I've seen yet. Unlimited viewing, good job.:)

Nice job! I'm still a bit wary of doing the HDD window mod. But, it does however look sweet. Oh well, "No guts, No glory." as the saying goes.
Hello guys,
Once again, thanks for all the nice comments. I have received some emails and private messages wanting to know more about the the mod shown here and other projcets I am working on.
In response to those requests I have set up a work log with alot of pictures and more insights. More info here http://www.extrememhz.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=18

nice case. that has me thinking. who did you get to make that?
The case I will be using was custom fabricated for me by a Canadian company (Acrylic PC).
The dimension of the case are as follows:
36"x18"x14" (92cmx46cmx36cm).
The case also features 10 exposed 5.25" bays and openings for 5 120mm fans.
Here is a picture of the empty case

man that case also just rocks!!! i wonna see it wen ur totally done! on ur case! stuff neons in there!! and stuff some pics in ur log!
Thats sweet, i like the LED in it. I noticed someone mentioned about maby doing this mod on a bigfoot drive, i think that would be a cool drive to do this one due to the fact of everything in it is larger and easier to see (and more movement in the drive itself. If anyone does this please post i would be quite interested in it.. i would do it my self but i dont have any old bigfoot drives sitting around.
