Why do I need to use riva tuner instead of the Nvidia drivers OC utility? Next question, how do i use rivatuner? And do i want to oc my g4 through drivers or low level? And on top of that, what's the difference? Sorry for the questions, but i'm confused.

Why do I need to use riva tuner instead of the Nvidia drivers OC utility? You don't need to, but RivaTuner gives you a lot more options than Nvidia does as far as tweaking your card out, whether it be for performance or quality...Next question, how do i use rivatuner? There are mouseover tips for most of the options in there, and what you don't understand, you can always ask us...that's what we're here for ;) And do i want to oc my g4 through drivers or low level? And on top of that, what's the difference? You want to o/c your card through the driver. I'm not sure enough of the answer to explain it to you, but the low-level o/c will cause instabilty. Someone else should be able to enlighten us further on that one...

Really? Man, I've been using low level! No wonder I've been freezing up. I just thought it was warmer outside or something (no A.C.). Heh, I downgraded my OC 5 MHz on core and 15 MHz on mem because of that. I was gonna just go back to NVmax but I'll give the driver level OC a shot, I've heard good things about Riva.

i dont mean to sound naive, but what other options do i need to tweak other than core and memory frequencies?

You should play around with AntiAiliasing (bad spelling) (AA) and Level of Detail (LOD) until you get something that looks good in games yet dosent lag. If you're going for pure speed, leave those off, but if you like image quality (like me) then see what you can do with those. Also Anisotropic Filtering goes with the same thing. Check out the stickey about 3d settings for more explaination.

I didn't know that about the Low Level IO vs Hardware OCing, but I was gonna ask that on the forums today!! Good info...I had recently been using the Low Level and experiencing a lot of instability which was frustrating me but I also chalked it up to high cpu temps! First thing I do when I go home is gonna be to switch it over to hardware OC!!

Oh man, I too have been using low level OC'ing and IO've been getting hang ups too where before I didn't. I read in a different thread that we should use low level for better performance and stability...Now I just don't know. Gonna try driver Oc'ing later
