ok im building my little bro a unix training system componets are as follows

MOTHERBOARD: GIGABYTE GA5SMM
CPU: K6-2 333
RAM: 64MB
CASE: ANTEC DESKTOP
HARD DRIVE #1: 540mb ide for /root
HARD DRIVE #2: 1.2gb for software
HARD DRIVE #3: 850mb of file storage and whatever
CD ROM: 52x
PSU: PWER MAN 250W
FLOPPY: mitsumi 3.5 fdd

im planing to paint it purple im going to window the side pannel with either 2 80mm exaust fans or 1 120mm with a 120mm intake just above the cpu placment. what do you think?

Well, overclock it.

Give him some lessons..

I'd recommend Lindows or FreeBSD :D

intergrated video/ sound

mini atx

ive killed 2 of em so watch them jumpers

mostly the voltage ones :cry:

yup i hit 3.5x133 with a k6-2 on one of them

i know this is a bit late and this thread is pretty much dead but thats good to know about the 133fsb cus hes complaining about lag so im gona reclock the chip thinking the extra memory bandwidth should help take care of the problem.

Might want to try more ram too. I found that helps a lot with my Redhat Box. Im running a PII 400.

its got 192mb of ram in it so it. originaly we were gona do 64 but added another 128

The ram shouldn't be a problem as long as you configure FreeBSD pretty well (strip down what you don't need out of the kernel, etc.) and add a little bit of swap space, maybe like 64mb. But other than that it'll be find for running *nix.

yea thats one thing that bugs me this was a compaq board originaly and so its got that stupid non bios bios thing going n i need to probably see about geting a flash for it. he couldnt figure out freebsd so installed mandrake on it im figureing maybe once he figures out what hes doing well upgrade it to bsd

go to giga bytes site they should have a flash for it.

if not i might have a back up of it some where
