I was looking into one of these a while ago, but I passed because it only used first USB 1.0. Would you guys be interested in something like this if Yamaha produced a version using Firewire or USB2.0 as the connecting standard?

I'm still a serious sound buff, and i know hooking one of these up to something like a set of Energy or Axiom Surround systems would simply destroy anything offered currently in the PC audio front. Yes guys, even KLIPSCH would get man handled.

I know all about using AV recievers. I use a Harmon Kardon AVR55 ($1000+ new), matched to a pair of Energy Connoisseur C-5s., but it is not exactly space friendly if you know what I mean. The features AND size of the yamaha unit are what make it appealing........to me at least.

I don't really see the point. I mean, I have an entire entertainment system in my living room sitting atop (rant) my 53" Widescreen HDTV(rant), and I can connect my puter to it with a mini plug to rca connector if I want, or if I want DTS, then all I have to do is buy a soundcard with digital output, like that new hercules card. My point is, why not just buy a cheap receiver. I could understand if it used wireless to transmit your music on a dead fm station or something. Frankly, I'm surprised we haven't seen that yet. If I am in the wrong, someone put me right.

A normal size reciever is not aesthetically pleasing at all near a PC. My computer is far from my den too, so it isn't easy for me to use that sound system all the time

**(my computer is still hooked up to my reciever in a different way, I'll explain that below)

I was simply saying that the receiver size seems perfect and the features are icing on the cake. Again, the overall package size + features is what make it a good idea. I still think the price is alittle to high though. Also hoping for a better interface to the PC (firewire, usb.0)

HOW MY PC IS HOOKED TO MY STEREO SYSTEM
=================================
I have my file server (450 K6-2) with 6.4 GB (file system) and 20GB (MP3z, only 1.5 GB free) serving music across the network to all my PCs. In my Den I have a Hacked Compaq iPAQ IA-1

running windows 98 lite off a 340MB IBM microdrive. This little unit sits on an end table in the DEN and s very pleasing to the eye. People not in the know always want to know how the music gets around. What I'm trying to stress is that I want something that is as transparent as possible. I guess I'm a small foot print kind of guy.

As far as being out of sight, I'm with you all the way. I hate having chords running everywhere in my apartment. I want to get a wireless network, but it's a little out of my price range. I also agree with you on the fact that it is far too expensive. I am eventually just going to build a box behind or beside my tv, so that I have all the functionality of a computer there. All these little quick fixes, like using the phone line to network, and stuff like that is too expensive, and doesn't really meet all my demands. They will probably make a new model to meet the usb 2.0 standard(if they make enough profit on the item). I can see your point of view. I guess it a good solution for a bedroom or something like that, but I love my speakers in my bedroom,(klipsch 5.1) so I didn't really think about hooking it up to a stereo.
