I'm planning on putting a window in my CD-RW soon, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to, and how I'd need to do it if I were going to.

The problem I have is this. Most CD-Rom drives have that little metal bridge across the top that houses what, in technical circles, we call that little spinny thingamajigger. In mine, the little spinny thingamajigger is actually a part of the metalk drive casing, and is right where I should be hacking away with my Dremel. How important is the little plastic thing on the top of my CD-RW? Will my drive function without it?

Can I get rid of it, or should I work around it?

Try using the drive without the cover on, that will give you your answer.:)

Are you refering to this type of drive?
And if you mean the little piece of circular plastic on top of the outer shell, I would definatly leave it alone.

And what I did about it, as far as putting in a window.. This is all part of cdrw mod version 2.0. Almost complete, just letting paint dry.

try cutting thr spinny thingamajigger out and putting it in the middle of the window. if you do it like this pic it should line up

Thanks, all. I figured it needed to stay there, so I was sort of planning on doing what Ziggey did.

Im sure it would be possible to cut it out and mount it in the window. Only thing I can see going bad with that is the window not being stable enough and causing vibrations.
