In one dish is there a company that will give me High Speed internet and satelite TV? The faster I can figure this out the faster my dad will get it so I will have no down time in folding. Can you help me? I am really tired right now.

DSL is a provided by your local phone company since they own the local loop. Even if you get it through Covad, Directv, or someone else, they all have to go through Pacbell, or Verizon - whoever your local phone company is.

Unless a company can give you a better price, just go directly to your local phone company.

I think what he's asking about is something like Starband. (http://www.starband.com/) It's two way satellite internet that's always on.

From their website:

One Antenna, Two-Way:
StarBand uses a single satellite dish antenna for receiving AND for sending information—no telephone connection is needed. Plus, the StarBand antenna can accommodate both the Internet and EchoStar's DISH Network® satellite TV programming. StarBand service can bring the Internet and hundreds of channels of television into your home, all through one dish antenna.

Always-On Access:
StarBand service features always-on Internet access, with no wait to reconnect every time you want to surf the web or check e-mail. You'll stay connected to the Internet via a high-speed link as long as your computer is on.

High-Speed:
StarBand is great for customers seeking up to 10 times faster speeds than dial-up can provide. With download speeds up to 500 kbps (targeted minimum speeds in excess of 150 kbps), downloading a file that used to take up to 5 minutes with dial-up can now take as little as 30 seconds!

Nationwide Availability:
StarBand service is available virtually everywhere in the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, so you control your Internet access options regardless of how far away you live from the nearest telephone switch or cable node.

A Future of Multicast Capability:
As a StarBand subscriber you will have the opportunity to be part of a unique satellite multicast network. This means that in the future, you will be able to direct your PC to receive channels of high-quality content from top entertainment and information partners, including MP3 files, software downloads, subscription content and more.

One thing to be aware of, though, is that it's a little pricey.

Either $199.99 for the equipment, $99.99/month for the first 12 months and $69.99 thereafter or
$499.99 for the equipment and just $69.99/month. Both have a 12 months contract you have to sign.

Works out to $1399.87 for the first option and $1339.87 for the second (with the 1 year).

By comparison for cable internet you're looking at $100 for the modem and probably around $50/month which comes out to about $700 for the same period. DSL should be similar. Chances are both would be faster too and certainly have much lower latency (ping times for satellite are near the 1 second range I believe).

We have comcast digital cable and we found that getting a satelite would be cheeper. We would cancel our cable and go to satelite. Cable or DSL is not avaible in out area. My dad would like one dish that would provide us high speed Internet and then a hook up to each box for each tv in our house for TV channels. Basicley one dish that braches out into the high sepped modem/router and another to a special splitter thar runs to each TV where each TV would have a box

Please do not suggest anything that has to do with DirectTV. They have a sirvice that will alow satelite tv and high spped internet in one dish called directway but It hooks up to your computer through a usb port. I need someting that will hook up to a Network Hub.

You can hook up Starband through an ethernet port. I don't recommend Starband though. The service is terrible. FWIW, after a year of service, I settled out of court with them.

I don't think anyone on a board like this would really recommend sattelite internet access. I've never used it, only heard. Basically if you play online games, you're probably better off with your 56k. The lag is really bad.

check out www.dslreports.com to find out about all kinds of internet access and read peoples reviews and experiences with all of them.

Yeah, satellite internet's not that great. But it's still going to be faster than dial up, except in the latency area.

Does any one use Optimum Online Cable internet?

I would say that if you've got digital cable, then there's a good chance that your ISP is able to offer cable internet too since they both use fiber optic connections. They may not offer it, but they should be able to.

omg.. if you can get cable... dont' even think about sat. internet. Even the worst cable is better than the best sat. modem. I've had starband, and it worked like it was supposed to, but it just wasn't that great. Cable is also way cheaper. Luckily I have 1mbit cable now... whew.

If you can get OOL you're one lucky guy, 10mbit d/l and 1mbit upload. I'd definitely go for it, it's better than my dsl.

Okay I will call my local cable company on monday. The company is Crapcast or should I say comcast.

Crap Comcast won't have cable internet until the end of summer.
