Need your full system specs. I don't know whether your board uses on - die sensor. If it does then it seems pretty average, if not it's way too hot. But we need to see system specs (Mainly mobo + cooler), before concluding anything. Are you using thermal paste?

Those are very high temps for a non-overclocked XP. What kind of thermal compund are you using? You should be using Arctic Silver 2 or 3, they will give you much lower temps than any generic thermal paste will. I would also suggest re-mounting the HSF as you may not be making good contact with the cpu's core. You can also try lapping the heatsink if it is not smooth.

how much arctic silver 2 did u put on ? u only sposed to put a paper or less thin layer .. also hows ur case ventilation, 2 in 2 out? tell me how ur 4 case fans are situated. i dunno if the board uses on die censor tho.. anyone kno that? if its on die censor the temps are good

uh, youre fine if you dont wanna overclock. these guys just have really high (low) standards bc theyre oc'rs. my xp 1700 on stock settings/heatsink/fan/thermal pad ran 116 idle and 137 under absolute max load for a long time. i say youre fine, dont let these guys scare you with "theyre WAY TOO HIGH" ... it just aint true.

It depends on what cfm 80mm fan you have, sure for not overclocking with super quiet fan that should be fine~better than stock cooling with less noise=good atleast for non overclockers but maybe getting a faster fan say a delta 68~80ish cfm fan and set up a switch for 5~7~12 volt thing and just up the fan speed if you ever need to like going to LAN in a hot place etc.

What's your ambient temperature (i.e., your room temperature)? If you have a really high ambient temperature and you don't have air conditioning, 46C wouldn't be that high. However, if your room temperature is 24C, then 46C will be quite high.

No offence but dont spam ie. to many one sentence posts in like 10 minutes. please dont do it because the server is running out of disk space.

Did you check the AMOUNT of asII you put on it. It should be a grain of rice sized amount. more is worse. Take off the heatsink and scrape your finger across the bottom to get rid of any extra thermal compound and re-mount it and rock it VERY gently and shift it back and fourth so you get the goo evenly distributed through the di. that should help.

it took me awhile to get the temps i wanted too

lap the heatsink
reapply arctic silver
reset the heatsink carefully (read how to do it right)

good airflow
put the case on the floor (for me dropped 3degrees)
get a high cfm fan to put on the heatsink, if u dont mind soud get a delta like i did
clear any cables that block the airflow

kr7a, 1700xp, 40gig maxtorr 7200, antec 1030, enermax dual fan

i have 3 intakes, 3 exhaust, and 1 side air duct that helps alot

at stock speeds, im at at 32c 25c idle, load im at 35c 25c

i suggest doing 1 thing a time and seeing what works best

Those temps aren't too bad, I still have my stock HSF and I have about 52c load. So I wouldn't worry too much, you are well within the limits of it working fine.

But as far as you having all that and it still being that high, I think you do need to reapply the paste and see what results you get.

Its not too bad, I am running 52'C load, 46 idle, but I havent got my extra case fans in yet. In the old case I had upto 69'C! Was worried about that!
