Burn in will help it but is not nessary....when doing it it gives the CPU time to "prepare" to be hotter and will give you a higher OC...

You should put the voltage to as high as it will go for about 1 week or so

Burning in helps to establish stability after overclocking. Say you overclock by 100MHz, then you run a program so that you know the system is stable.

Burning in should be done for at least a few hours: most people use a combination of 3dmark2001 from www.madonion.com , Folding@Home (see www.overclockers.ws ), SETI ( www.ocsetiteam.com) and SiSoft Sandra ( www.sisoftware.co.uk/sandra I think ).

Yeah, some have said that over time their chips burn-in and can overclock a few mor mHz, but for most intents and purposes, burn-in is done to establish confirmation of stability.

In otherwords, to test a system is stable (overclocked and non-overclocked) it will be set to run at full tilt (using the programs David mentioned, as well as others...) for hours. If it can run for hours at full tilt, than that is a good indication that things are put together and stable.

if you want to see how hot your chip will get under extreme load try TOAST. it got my chip hotter then it's ever been. the only problem with it is it don't have an error detection feature to see if it's stable.
