i was in my local computer store yesterday to what they had for case fans ... long story short... i got a 92mm panaflo for $3 canadain (thats like .25 for u americans)

there are three wires (blue, yellow adn red) that go from the fan to a P7 type connector

i want to hook with fan up to my baybus but i don't know which two wires i need? i have never seen thsi color combination before--i think its an old panaflo, but it does have the same model number any of the 92mm models you will find now

any ideas?

thanks

I have some older 92mm fans and blue is the rpm, but I have some with yellow. Do you have a multimeter? Or you can just try them, but that may cause damage (dont quote me on that). I know the red positive (+).

just try differnet combos, i doubt it would hurt your fan. If blue is most probably the speed sensor tat put that on positive LAST. first try +red -yelow and so on.

Since the colors are nonstandard, I'd go by position on the 3-pin molex. I'd look at http://www.thermaltake.com/datasheets/a1214.pdf (
this page for help. If you put the molex facing you, like this:
________
|_o_o_o_|
| . . . . . . . |

(the dots are spacers so the picture won't get
squished by the forums)

(Please excuse my ascii drawing)

Take special note of the two prongs on the plug as in the drawing -- they're there for orientation.
In the drawing, the left, usually yellow, is the fan RPM signal wire. The middle one, usually red, is +12V, and the right one, usually black, is ground.

BTW, on a "standard" fan, red is +12V, black is ground, and yellow is for the fan RPM signal.

This is actually the sort of reason why I like to buy a fan extension cable and use that for my fanbus leads. You can just plug any fan into it without thinking about which lead's which, and without having to cut up the wires.

Hey, thanks!

And welcome to the forums! :)

Let's see ... I got the 3-pin extensions from a local computer store; I think you might also try

http://www.svcompucycle.com/conad.html

They're one of my favorite online etailers. Dirt cheap shipping especially. (Since you're cutting them up anyway and don't plan on using the fan RPM wire, you can use just anything that has the correct molex on it.)

There's also

BTW, you can just buy short ones and lengthen the wires. Twist 'em together, solder, fold, cover with small-radius heat-shrink tubing. :)
