well guys after trying and trying i have come to the conclusion 3ghz was not attainable by me. i have gone through 6 2.26 and 2 2.4's and no 3ghz plus my board is giving off way to hot temps then it should. i got one more 2.26 coming from rma from newegg and if it doesnt give me 3ghz i am retiring from ocing for the time period. sorry guys its just to much time and money for me to get something that i have been so close but yet still far away.

Maybe it's something else holding you back and not the CPUs?

Send me a couple of those CPUs and I'll see what they'll do on my system.

man, dont give up yet.:( im sure that you could get one of the chips that you have to 3 gigs.:D i think that your first problem is the 2 sticks of ram. you should try to hit it with only 1 stick seated. it is well known that abit boards dont like 2 sticks for overclocking.:( other than that, you shouldnt have a problem. i got my chip today and it was a little too easy to get here. and i think i could go alot higher, but i will wait for my better cooling, and i have not had more than 1.72v on the chip.

i only use 1 stick anyhow, but i can run my memory alot higher if i have to.

It's not the end of the world if you don't reach 3 gig, sheesh. I had a Celeron 566 that I did everything I could to hit 1 gig with it and it never did. Could only reach 978 MHz. Oh well, that's life.

you must not understand how hard i have tried to get 3ghz man!

jdmcnudgent
07-26-02, 10:57 PM
try at a 1:1 ratio. thats what i had to do.:D of course, i tried that from the gate.:D

no go wont post as well my temp reader is really high and i think it could be the board but not sure.

Those are very high FSB speeds you're trying to reach. Have you done any cooling mods to the mobo? Especially the northbridge chip? If your system temps are high, maybe you need to do something different for case ventilation.

throw one of those 2.26 chips in and try again. i dont really like the 2.4b chip with the 18x multiplier.:(

C'mon Hawkeye! .. you know you can hit 3ghz! .. I just tried another 2.26 and she did 3ghz easily... I honestly think it's your mobo, have you tried another mobo? .. 1:1 ratio.. PC3000 Corsair DDR 256 stick and BD7II ? .. PSU shouldn't be the issue .. I'll almost guarantee you 3ghz with that setup! make sure the 2.26 is a recent pack .. and you "should" be set bro!!

Hawk, very soon Intel will drop its prices on CPUs and you can get a 2.53 for $243,or a 2.66 for $401. Almost certainly a 2.66 will overclock to 3.0 (150fsb). Sell/RMA those chips and be patient. I've got the itch too,but I'll wait a little to buy a 2.66 for the same reason...Mark

Why don't you try a better cooling(not say about water or vapo or phase) like a stronger fan,a Delta 5900 rpms lets say????Take a look at that Air cooled......

Hawk

No way you think you can get off that easy and just walk away I dont think so

You are hooked just like us other sick bast***s

Even if you walk away for now - you will be reading all of these posts on the different boards and secretely thinking about trying this and that

You may even keep buying various components and not tell us - sort of like a drug addict who tells everyone they stopped all the while sitting in their room using the stuff

No way you cant just walk away

u perfrom better with yr old motherboard. i see better results with it. dun buy any more new parts. just change the mobo to the old one

Seems like my suggestion for mobo cooling mods was ignored. I hate to say this, but I have a good "batting" average. Why not try cooling that northbridge chip down and trying some different ways to improve case ventilation. Maybe try a different BIOS if another is available. Burn one of those CPUs in for a while. Lap your CPU heatsink. Man, there is a bunch of things that can be done. Time to do some research and then some modding.

I have fixed my NB on my BD7II and can get 31000 stable now and before I fixed the NB I was crashing at 2900.....

Dont give up so easilly dood.....try try and try again....:)

CS, with all the cpu's and boards you've tried, what is the one constant that hasn't changed? Did you use the same RAM? The same HDD? The same PCI cards? The constant factor may be your limiting one....if you have changed everything, then my prays are with you, bro...good luck :D

yeah i know i will and honestly i am kinda losing obsession of it cause i really just want a kickass system, my z 560's are acting up again. the fronts work but the rears dont and its not the speakers or the wires, think its the sub or the sound card.
